Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Layoffs

When are the layoffs coming? WIll they offer early retirement? Are there targets for specific groups? How long will we be working from home?

They will force some USRs to retire no doubt. And pay cuts are going to be announced for management folks. If I were you I'd be looking elsewhere, even in this pandemic

Producers / Shippers are hurting bad, to the point of bankruptcy, and need all the help they can get. AM is no dummy and knows he will never be able to set foot inside the Petroleum Club again if he does not act soon on implementing significant operational cuts. That means significant permanent layoffs and forced retirements are the best option. Rolling back your hours or salary doesn’t work well because of the huge overhead costs at ENB - company still needs to pay for your office, phone, computer, insurance, benefits, bonuses, parking, vehicle, maintenance, pension, vacation, etc. Best to show you the door instead.

It will be the Axe for some plus uniform pay cuts for the remaining. No reduction in work hours. Dream on about that. Full oil tanks everywhere and mainline volumes have fallen off a cliff. I think the cuts to staff and pay will be jaw dropping.

It seems the email was indicating they want everything uniform all areas. The depts they mention in the email don't seem to be the most obvious places to save money with cuts.

What could they be oursourcing now?

What unit is that in? Sh–ty but not surprising. I also think the theory about salary reductions is spot on. I predict we’ll see something along those lines although I hope all they do is a voluntary “work less hours for less pay” offer. Some folks with childcare and/or eldercare responsibilities would gladly do that until things get back to normal. (Of course, that only works if Enbridge can accept that less work will get done, which remains to be seen).

Email from VP that hints at layoffs and more reorganizing, now all employee meeting with director that is called last minute. Something is a brewing.

Well just check the news who's doing layoffs in the O&G - Pembina did one recently after they cut 1.1B in Capex spending, Conoco Phillips had layoffs too. They probably won't admit it's COVID-related but definitely due to low oil demand and oil price.

“Layoffs being the last resort “ is a meaningless thing to say. Last resort before what? If AM says that p–ping his pants is the last resort ... he might just mean it’s the last resort before having to stand up and go to the bathroom.

I’m sure something is brewing. Based on how they’re talking, I think there will be some kind of salary reduction initiative. Their first measure could be forcing the office workers back into the office as soon as possible ... which would force a lot of people with children at home and no childcare options to take some kind of leave with reduced pay (which Enbridge will position as something “nice” they are doing). Add leaves with reduced pay for the people who get COVID-19 once we’re back in the office coughing on each other, and the company will be saving major bucks. It will be a complete horror show for all and when people left at work are complaining about workload, they’ll remind us their did this to avoid layoffs like we wanted....

The ELT just like the LLBO is lying to you. Layoffs are in the works like every other business. Tarsands are imploding. People are not paying their gas bills and huge gas burning plants are idle. Get your resume ready...everybody is fair game.

It was said yesterday that the ELT is considering other options first and layoffs are a last resort. That was stated by someone on the ELT.

Truth? I dunno.

I wonder if they will target field staff 55 and above? It’s a chance to hire younger cheaper replacements.
I’m over 55 and in the field and but I think it’s a good move long term for Enbridge. Anyone agree?

Lawyer up. They can’t come unless you give consent.

They will send a black SUV to your house to pick things up an then ship your personal items when the offices open

Will be interesting to see how HR handles the layoffs while employees are working from home.

The less busy you are while working from home = the less critical your role is.

My guess is we’ll see a different approach this time around rather than just straight-up job cuts exclusively. Due to severances, Enbridge doesn’t see the savings from job cuts right away, so consider what they might have to do to save money within this calendar year. Pure speculation but that’s all you are going to get on this site!

Layoffs coming? Almost certainly
Early retirement? Almost certainly
Targets for specific groups? Almost certainly; budget targets
How long will we work from home? Until the government reopenes nonessential businesses

My thoughts from someone who works in the utility. Take care of yourselves and your family. Save money where you can. If this pandemic has taught me anything it's that nothing is guaranteed

I don’t know, but I have little work to do other than checking email a few times a day. Last 2 weeks, I only sent out 6 emails...works out to about $1000/email + benefits.
