Thread regarding Allscripts layoffs

Layoffs or furloughs?

Can somebody please clear this out for me, just to know how worried I should be about my mom's future? Are people being laid off or furloughed? There is a huge difference between the two...

She is still employed, but I'm not sure for how long and it would be good to know what's to expect if she is affected.

When you're gone, you're gone. Don't look back.

There are some furloughs, there are many more layoffs. Layoffs are permanent, and while the official number is 5% it seems much larger than that and falls on the immediate heels of two other layoffs in March and April 1st.

Have no idea what or if there is a severance package, the separation package is: "Turn in your stuff, don't do business with our clients, you can pay for CORBA, your PTO is gone, good luck" wait, the last part wasn't there...

BTW, Why is Allscripts still employing a lot of foreign workers on H1/L1 visas and have fired/furloughed US citizens. How is that not legal / moral? Can we not sue the company over it or at least get it blacklisted?

I just got furloughed yesterday from ÀS/CHMB. I have my medical and benefits but will have to pay back my portion if I am taken back or not. I am not too sure what to do next.

To the original post.... Encourage your mom to seek employment elsewhere. Allscripts leadership will eventually screw her over. One Allscripts “mom” gave me a great piece of advice. She said to go work for yourself and start a new company. I followed her advice, and never regretted it since.

I personally know of both layoffs and furloughs in people that I work, or should say worked with. I am one of the laid off.

Posters: Please be careful and avoid providing information if you're not positive you have visibility into full picture. Inadvertently communicating false information during such difficult times only makes the situation worse for all those involved.

There have been both furloughs & layoffs. I know specifically of one team who has furloughed staff during the past few weeks. I can't speak to the details of what Allscripts offers furloughed employees, but typically someone who has been furloughed maintains their benefits for a certain period. Specifically Life and Health insurance. Worst case scenario: COBRA. However, furloughed employees will no longer work or be paid until they are brought back on board. During the in-between period furloughed employees can apply for unemployment to recoup some of the lost income.

On the other side, there has also been a 5+% RIF (Layoff) in the last few days, which seems to have impacted a much larger # of employees VS furlough activities. This paints a picture of "only layoffs" to the majority of those writing or viewing comments in these threads, but that's not accurate.

Everyone stay safe and keep your heads up. Better days are on the horizon!

To the poster below, there is no “safe.” Those remaining are for the immediate future, but if clients remain unable to pay bills and sales don’t pick up, there will be more reductions. To the original poster, your mom should save money where she can and keep an eye for new job opportunities.

It's called a RIF -Reduction In (work)Force. It is permanent.

If she made it through yesterday, and worked, she is safe.
