The importance of great leadership

By now, everyone should understand the importance of great leadership to a company and country. I am seriously disappointed after looking at what’s happening to our country and company. Lack of leadership. Everyone has heard about the new CFO on Friday. I thought I should be patient and they will send out an email to formally inform us by noon on Monday. If I am expected to reply to emails on weekend, it is not too much to expect our executive to draft a proper announcement over the weekend. We are here today not just because of this whole Coronavirus + Oil Spat. We have had poor leadership for years, from middle management to EC. Some #JB encouraging unethical behavior, resulted in wrong decisions made.

If we’re to live through this, we need to do some serious housecleaning...from top to bottom.

"Great Leadership"..
In Aug 2019, when the APC deal closed, VH sent an internal email to all employees. In part, she directed all employees, in the event we were contacted by the press or other external parties, asking about the APC deal, to not answer any questions ourselves, but to direct all such questions to a certain VP, specifically, OXY's VP-Corp Affairs...

I encourage all OXY associates to review the "bio" of that VP and her areas of responsibilities. They include: "corporate communications, public affairs, media relations,..." The bio attributes to the VP "20 years of experience in..corporate,.. 'CRISIS' (&) investor..communications..."

Fast-forward to today...(Q2-2020)...We are in a crisis.

During this crisis has any associate seen any kind of substantive communication during this crisis from the "crisis-communication" VP? I haven't. Its during tough times, I would expect ALL senior leadership to be pulling their weight. VPs at OXY are paid a LOT of dough. Are they earning it? I think most of us know the answer to that question.

Maybe OXY doesn't need a "VP" of corporate affairs. Maybe a "manager" of corporate affairs is what we need – and what we have...?

Its all about "Leadership".

Oxy has a lot of managers but not many leaders.

VH is a figurehead at this point. She is being retained (allowed to stay), as she is "useful" to Chazen & Icahn. How? Any bad news/announcements? - VH will be the one who delivers each & every "cr@.p sandwich". SHE will be the target of all the employees' ire, rather than anyone else.

Chazen and Icahn say "jump", VH asks "how high". She is in effect, nothing but their Stooge. A pant-suit wearing STOOGE. Kinda like Curly or Shemp, only not as bright.

Leaders at Oxy? Ha, that's a joke. It's easy being a leader when times are good. You see the true colors of leaders when the chips are down. And so far, the color we see from our managers in this trying time is blackety black black.

I doubt the CFO change came from Vicki. This was forced by the board. She will probably be next. She is no longer thinking about our morale. She is in the bunker right now trying to survive.
