Thread regarding Baker Hughes layoffs

U.S. Employees Laid off...Check out the WARN act before you sign

Considering Baker is doing mass lay-offs across U.S. land this may fall under the WARN act where they have to give you 60 days notice or equivalent pay. Baker gives you 2 weeks notice/pay as for the notice and you acknowledge this if you sign the severance package. So if the WARN act does apply you waive your rights if you sign your package. Definitely something to look into and ask your HR rep and personal attorney that may be familiar with labor law.

If they want to hide behind the pandemic then aren’t we supposed to get our jobs back when it is over? It doesn’t seem like they could have their cake and eat it too...

extraordinary times at the moment. but the oil industry is renowned for boom and bust. during the good times you can earn top dollar. on the downturns you get laid off. that is the nature of the business. if you do not like it then try and get a steady nine to five.

Unforseeable business circumstances as a result of the effects of COVID-19 And natural disasters such as COVID-19 allow businesses to be exempt from the WARN act. “If the notice were not reasonably foreseeable at the time the 60 day notice would be required, employers shall be exempt.”

Don't ask your HR rep. They do not represent YOU! They will lie to protect company. They lied to me about RMA when I got laid off. Said there was no such thing. I finally got it, but it was not easy. Liers and cheats everyone of them.
