I was hired at Hy-Vee a few years ago and was told I would be the Catering Manager as soon as all the new renovations were complete (they told me two months tops). In the meantime I was doing manager training and checking and other odd jobs to get my hours which I was fine with, at the time it was the holidays so they needed all the extra bodies they could get. After two months I was told they had already filled that position and I would just be a part time checker and would not even debate the issue further with me. I told them to go f*** themselves for wasting my time.
To anyone who has been laid off by Hy-Vee or who has just been treated badly by the company, get out now. Theres no point in staying with them if that's how they treat they're employees. Whole Foods starts all team members at $15/hr and they are giving everyone an extra $2/hr pay raise for as long as the covid-19 thing lasts while keeping you at full time status.
Dont just complain about your job and not do anything about it.

You make a post saying that comments or threads aren't objective then proceed with a one sided argument, nice. Theres enough stories about people being treated poorly by the company so OP's story isnt that hard to believe but there is some salty people on here who just want to complain about their jobs.
Best part of these posts are that they’re one sided... just saying if the store hired you for catering manager, but then settle for you as a part time checker, there was probably a reason - work ethic- failure to listen to direction- late to work etc. and everyone wants feedback as long as it’s what’ they want to hear. Would love to hear the full story - guessing you had a hard time with honesty.
I've been reading the forum on and off for a few months and I know what you mean about posts disappearing and yeah it wouldnt surprise me. What gets me is that there are a lot of threads that have nothing to do with the company's sh–ty policies and layoffs and mostly off topics threads and low energy bait.
This will probably get this thread removed/get my IP banned: Those are the threads that should get deleted. Makes me wonder about the mods of this site or about how many Hy-Vee store directors or general Randy A—Sniffers there are on here reporting threads and posts they dont like because they cant deal with the opinion that Hy-Vee isnt as saintly as they want to believe. Then again it could just as well be a conspiracy theory but I'm not so sure..

The company constantly does stuff like this and covers it all up. It needs to all come out.the public deserves to know who their money is going to.
Yeah you're right I probably wasn't qualified for the job since I didnt go to Hy-Vee college. I just graduated LCB in the top 15%, interned at Sofitel, worked in mostly banquet and catering positions where I cooked for 2 former presidents and about a dozen foreign politicians and in my free time volunteer cooking for vets and the homeless. My misuse of grammar on a online forum was what probably got me..
It looks like I touched a nerve with you though, you're probably one of those uptight store directors who walks around with your head so far up your (and Randy's) a– you treat loyal employees like disposable pawns.

Sorry for your poor experience at Hy-Vee two years ago. If you don’t understand basic grammar I doubt you could figure out catering procedures like temperate danger zone and safe food handling. Sounds like they made a good decision.
