The Wegmans in Hornell, NY is not doing it's part-time employees any favors by withholding a layoff. Yes, they promised $2 more per hour and within a week after doing so have dramatically cut back work hours for part-time employees in the prepared foods department to 16 hours per week.
I realize they want to protect their no layoff reputation, but I have bills to pay and working 16 hours a week is only destroying me financially.
In case Wegman's hasn't noticed, there isn't any food stamp or social service help...these institutions are CLOSED so people can't even apply for help!
I can not pay my bills. Utilities aside, I have to choose between paying my rent or renewing my car insurance so that I can continue to drive to Wegmans 3 days a week for a total of 16 hours!
While people are hoarding groceries, I don't dare spend a few dollars on bread and milk because I am drowning already.
The estimate is that this could continue until July. I can't hold out that long. Even with a stimulus check, if I'm only working 16 hours a week, I will lose everything; heat, lights, car even the roof over my head.
I'm drowning and it feels like Wegman's has a hand on my head holding me underwater.
