We don’t do this kind of work anymore. Company has moved on and only do high technology now

Be now, be Baker, be the new Baker

The old school habits and people are gone forever. Stoneywood is high tech hub for qualified engineers

a qualified engineer from good uni would nae get a job as operator chipping rust and painting dumb iron

Its all changed now big time in Aberdeen office with the minimum university engineering degree requirement.

All the low skilled old school boys have been laid off or they cut their salary so low they didn't want to stay and left.

Aberdeen office is now full of young hungry and highly intelligent engineers eager to go.

HR call it the new Baker

I am one of the lucky engineers to get a place in the Decom group. There for 1 year but I hope to stay longer and get a manager position.

I also just bought my first flat up the west end of town. Very cool place to live and cheaper than renting. Aberdeen rents are crazy high

Aberdeen Office used to have some high tech, now competes against wfd for dumb iron business. Bottom of food chain in oil service

Actually now is a great time if you are planning a move to Aberdeen

House prices are now at similar prices to other Scottish cities so it’s a good time to find a great deal

The possibilities for jobs are huge with the massive Decom business and Aberdeen’s standing as a global technology hub for oil and gas.

Then there is the huge investment going into to develop the massive tourism potential the city has and the opening of the new harbour that brings in huge cruisers from around the world. This will be great for rental property landlords too

And nots let forget Aberdeen is a leading city in the development of renewable energy so lots of jobs for degree qualified engineering staff

All of the above said I do agree the days of the low skilled labourer getting the salary of an engineer are gone and this group of people are suffering. The world has moved on and you really need to have an education to benefit from these huge opportunities. And there are many great universities including here in Aberdeen who offer top quality online degrees so you can work and study at the same time. What’s not to like about that?

Typical Baker employees just full of lies.
Keep telling everyone were busy and were getting paid a fortune when the company has now the worst reputation going.
When your paying 35% less than weatherford and your department's are 20% the size of a bankrupt companie how can you say your doing well or busy.?
You tell yourself your doing well and busy and this won't bankrupt hundreds of company.
Make up your getting paid high salaries and rates when all that ended 6 years ago and now you can make the same money easily onshore so why would anyone waste there life working away all the time.
You dont need a degree to see that just about the most stupid thing I have heard and everyone knows graduates are on less than half of everyone else as thsts why Baker employees them, to keep the books looking better.
They also cant get anyone else with experience

You keep telling everyone Aberdeen is booming when is s total ghost town with more than 2000 propertys for sale at the moment, Glasgow has under 50.
rent so low it's now cheaper than 20 years ago and that's before this crisis, so knock another 30% off the value of your house by the time this is finished.
Ha ha ha ha booming and decom busy heard it all now..

The new Decom manager has made an engineering degree a minimum for staff in the group and the lower skilled have been transferred back to drilling department. That has already resulted in higher salaries and compensation

It’s takes the group to a new level of competency and the clients like it too. Hence BDRG has been awarded more work than any other and there will be new hiring opportunities once the lock down passes

people you need to hire for decom is roughnecks rousties and derrickmen. no need for degree in this line of work

Decom and engineer degree are you having a laugh.

It's the most basic job going.

Baker like most decom work will take just about anyone with liner , tools, plugs , drilling , mud ect ect experience.
Just look up the job brief and who you have working for you just now.
If your so picky for work why have you so many people working in Aberdeen who were sacked from weatherford and Schlumberger?
Why has 60% left to work for other companies I smell sxxt

People with 1 to 3 years total offshore experience are running these jobs its embarrassing to think that's what your holding on to to save Baker.

Sorry but 30k basic and 180 a day is sxxt money in my book but if you want to waste your life offshore for that money enjoy it and tell all your mates your hitting the big times offshore.

I left it when was getting paid more than double that and oh I am home every night with my family and friends.

Oil is booming.... not

It’s old school management who started the Decom group and very successful too

Yep BDRG pay very reasonable salaries given current circumstances

No cut backs here for time being

Post ID: @2fsk+14bu2FmV

They increased the rates for the Decom group in Aberdeen because they didn’t have any degree qualified engineers

Hence there has a been a lot of hiring recently and the rates are higher than normal

Decom rate in Aberdeen is poor. Only fraction of few years ago. Pension cuts, job cuts , bonus cuts makes yu ask why anyone with eng degree would work in this business putting sc-ap iron on boats

by

Post ID: @2mbp+14bu2FmV

Yep Decom still paying full salary in Aberdeen

Thank you Baker DRG

Post ID: @2ysc+14bu2FmV

You clearly don’t work in Decom because we are paid very well

Sounds like you are a drilling guy who would like to be in Decom but perhaps didn’t make the grade on the last hiring program.

Sorry to hear that but stay firm and drilling will be back soon and when we need more people in Decom will let you know.

By the way do you have an engineering degree? This is a minimum to join so if you don’t have one would suggest to start an online one now at a good university and take advantage of being stuck indoors

Good luck!

No we are not I am decom and were not paid a fortune at all.
Its almost 40% of 6 years ago and day rates are not paid sitting at home.
Weatherford still pay way more than Baker for that too almost 35% more on day rates alone .
We use to work 230 days a year now lucky to do 140 so no idea where your getting this information from.

Those Decom guys are being paid a fortune to stay at home right now. Whats so special about them that they are getting special treatment? I guess the company can see there isa big future there

Very unfair to the drilling people after our long years of service

Your not going to survive on decom you total fools its s tiny part of our company not even 1%
We are way over priced for a start for most jobs and eqally don't have the staff to do the jobs.

Decom is great but you need to win the work first. Need sales people who know how to submit tenders not just copy and paste the last one and then spend the rest of the day playing computer games. That’s why aberdeen lost all ther work

What about Decom? Can the guys be transferred into the Decom group?

That’s where the money is these days
