Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Working at home, BEWARE

If you are working at home, they are probably monitoring your key strokes and taking screen shots. Better skip that Tuesday afternoon nap next time. Thoughts?

This is some conspiracy sh–. The company is tanking, they don’t need to see your keystrokes to lay you off..quit being ridiculous.

Pretty sad as stuff has collapsed in the oil industry due to Covid and Saudi/Russia feud, that a company would have actual people watching if others are working or not. A program that runs in the background for sure is running monitoring you, but someone watching you, doubtful. If the program flags you as not being online for several days, maybe then they start poking around. I always wondered how often they look at my login after hours, weekends and holidays when things are busy? I guess that doesn't really count for some reason. That is why they want you at the office. Can watch you closely and send you home with homework. Kind of like being in junior high.

What a pile of c-ap! Managers can clearly see by emails and IM if people are working or not. If there is a concern then yes your stuff can be pulled but there is no bandwidth to be sitting around watching keystrokes.

Can they? Sure. Are they? I would be surprised considering the relative organizational skills of the IT group as well as the staffing level. I've never heard of any manager getting a notification like this and I would think there would be enough people with knowledge of it would come up.

As far as choosing who gets cut? I've seen it both ways. Sometimes the manager is told to cut XX heads and they get to decide who and other times they just get told by the more senior level, this is who is getting cut. It's definitely coming from management though, HR is just there to do the paperwork and make sure nothing illegal happens that could get the company sued.

I got my kids Legos and built a plastic wall around the keyboard and put Pookie the hamster inside to be my assistant.

About time someone finally admits that the supervisors decide who gets snipped when it’s nut cutting time. It gets really old hearing supervisors act as if it wasn’t their choice and play victims.

It’s not HR it’s IT and they use a program to monitor it, they aren’t sitting there staring at your computer. What they do is the software randomly checks in on an employee and records your desktop. If they do not see any motion for say an hour or 2 in the middle of the afternoon then they notate it and continue to check in periodically. If they continue to sense no motion for extended periods of time then they send a report to your boss. Your boss can also request you to be monitored if they have suspicion that you aren’t working.

Human Resources has much more to do than sit around and monitor your keystrokes. Most of the time they are trying to solve issues from whining man children who can’t play nice together.
For those of you who keep throwing HR under the bus for all the layoffs? It’s your direct supervisor and their supervisor that make those decisions. It’s just the poor b–tard in HR that has to break the bad news.

For most functional positions it should be clear who is effective and who isn't. It doesn't require a keystroke logger to know if you are doing your job and doing it well while working remotely. The upshot is, companies everywhere are going to get a better idea of how effective their workforce actually can be, even remote. And confirm that most professionals actually do still work hard regardless of location. Perhaps this will influence positive change in terms fostering a more flexible office policy in the future. Companies who have been slower to adapt will see that a more flexible remote policy can be an effective way of cutting down on non-productive sick time (fewer people spreading gems at work, people remaining productive while battling simple colds, etc), as well as lowering overhead through reduced real estate, lower healthcare costs, and so forth.

IT dosen't have people sitting in front of a screen checking on everyone. Yes, your login time is logged. If someone wants to see the log they just go to your user ID.
Not enough human resources to do live monitoring of 3000 people.
Basically, if you're going to be laid off, nothing will stop that. Decisions most likely are already being made no matter your online time.

I can totally see them doing that and using it as a way to lay off people.
