DOH has informed the MCOs in NYS that they will "be made whole" if they provide clinicians to staff the various COVID support lines. However, these lines may not be that busy.
In that case, the state may see this as a good place to cut and MCOs may have to layoff the UMs and CMs. ....the MCOs will be allowed to modify the plans they previously submitted to the state.
Optum and UHG in NY are both in a state of disarray. However, all of the MCOs in NYS have been told that there will be no UM for several months. So, the state will pay the salaries of all these MCOs doing very little in order to lower the work load on the hospitals doing a lot.
- The MCOs are in a good place: They have our tax dollars held hostage.
