Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

https://komonews.com/news/coronavirus/boeing-temporarily-shuts-down-puget-sound-production-operations-due-to-covid-19-outbreak

Our 2nd level came down and spoke to us at our opening meeting he says don't be surprised if we dont open after 14 days. After that 14 days where we get 10 paid days as stated in this article, you are on your own. Your either going to have to file for unemployment or use your vacation pay to make up for the missing days.

Now I pressed a first line manager on the subject after this and I says is this gonna be possibly 3 weeks or 3 months? He raised his eyebrows and smiled suggesting the 3 months Was not unreasonable. With the 737 shut down and boeing paying over 10000 peoples wages for over a year for doing absolutely nothing I believe the corporate powers that be will use the stay-at-home order to keep us from getting paid by Boeing.

Say they can't just lay us off because they'd have to pay us for the next 3 or 4 months depending on how long you've worked here. This way they can use the stay-at-home and not pay us anything.

If you have ever picked up a paperback from the dollar bin and started

Now there’s a rational thought?

You're right on the mark with your comment. We heard the same thing in the flight line at SDC. I don't think we're coming back after the two weeks off. It'll most likely be months. That f'ing useless Union isn't going to do a damn thing to help anyone who's affected by it, I have no confidence in them at all. No matter, if they make the announcement that it's going to last longer, I'm out. Boeing is a disaster of a company to work for, I'll be leaving Boeing and this c-appy state for good. It started out with such good promise only to end up like this.

@1poj ....

Actually, Boeing does employ actual machinists.....that yes, make parts on CNC machines. They used to be everywhere but got consolidated mostly to Auburn & down in Portland. I'm sure there are odd pockets here & there, Kent Space Center/the DC etc. but regardless, there are Boeing employees who are real machinists, & not just on CNC's either.

Well none of you are actual machinists, you may belong to the union, but they only trust you with a broom under supervision.

There is no such thing as a C&C machine.
There are CNC machines which is an acronym for Computer Numsrical Control

Wow, and they let you guys build airplanes. I'll drive.

It's sad to hear this, no one should have to choose between our job and our health.

But the good news is we pay Union dues and have a Union fighting for our safety every day during this pandemic...oh wait, they haven't said a word, c-ap.

Our hearts are with you all affected. But its pretty bad in Seattle- I wouldn't take the chance of infection- no amount of pay will help you if you get down bad enough. You'll recover from a pay loss.. I know they say this a lot but wash your hands a ton...and stay 6 ft- they say its the person to person contact that is the worst...

I’m so sorry bro, I hate to see this happen to my brothers and sisters of the Union and Boeing family, I work at the Boeing Portland plant I’m crossing my fingers this doesn’t happen to us, but as far as we all know and what they have told us in the emails we get is there has not been anyone that has been affected by the virus at the Portland plant, They have tho sent a lot of ppl home only if they can Wk from home, I’m not one of them can’t take a C&C machine home with me. I hope y’all be able to go back after the 14days..
