Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Who else thinks this number is too low?

The number being circulated around the media is 450 laid off since January. Judging by what we see and what we've been reading here, doesn't that number sound significantly lower than it should actually be?

It looks to me like they are trying to hide just how many people have been laid off to avoid a bigger sh–storm...

The number is way too low. They laid off nearly 1,000 just before the covid lockdown occurred. They should have left CBS separate. Viacom is a terrible company run by an incompetent child of priviledge.

That number is a total crock. Just the last week of April alone was over 300. I f—ing hate this company so much.

our division would layoff year round in small batches. during the banking/housing crisis of 2008-09, they split it up in 4 different layoffs over the late 2008-2009 year. never would be warn reporting. those numbers never made it to any sort of media reports/ reported numbers in media. were they buried in some internal report to investors, ect, probably. they only report on large, all at once layoffs. for example they did report on late 2008 Viacom large layoff. we would morbidly laugh at how we did not exist, in some articles from that big layoff back then, they would list where the layoffs came from, which workers. never were we included in layoff numbers in these type of media business coverage. so yes, that 450 number is way low. if they can avoid dropping a large number of people at once, they will. don't know if CBS side ran things like this but Viacom was notorious for this practice. constant layoffs/downsizing year round. we are in a new environment though, they may HAVE to layoff off in large numbers. with that said, the numbers will never match up to what you are seeing with your own eyes.

Seems low to me as well. Also WARN doesn’t take into account any of the PBEs that were let go.
