Add to the fact I'm in my mid 50's and first time unemployed. During job application and initial discussion it's all good until they see how old you are in a video interview.

With the way the economy is right now, yea you get severance but what about being able to find another job. 25% of the working populace is unemployed and many businesses aren't truly wanting to add more workers if so it's truly temporary.

Force ranking is real folks - I have been in the closed rankings meetings. At the end of the plant process if enough 3’s have not been sent to corporate the plant manager has to demand the directors identify more. New employees are generally left alone because they are shiny new pennies. If you want to stay you have to s— up or your turn in the 3 bucket is coming. Ride it out if you like what you do because severance isn’t good and you keep benefits. Then go get a higher paying better job.

Do you actually think that these engineers and managers would be coming back aka part-time at the plant and part time at home if it wasn't that they are trying to show their boss that they are on top of it and doing work. They would be staying at home like they have been. They are coming back slowly now because one they may have been told and two word is getting around that there is a RIF coming along with ratings also (1, 2 or 3).
