Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Back to office

Just got email from contracting service that ford is opening back office work soon. What’s the point? On the other hand, my manager said Ford was considering WFH indefinitely until further notice. Will you guys be happy to go back to the office?

The huddle is at 10:30 tomorrow. Not 8.

If you are working from home, did any of the commenters bother to watch the Ford Land presentation by Jackie Shok this morning. Has anyone read the Non Manufacturing Return to Work play book with links on Ford's home page? You are required to attest that you read it before actually returning to work. What about posting questions on the Huddle tomorrow at 8:00am tomorrow? That is all the Huddle has been about for the last month, how we return to work. Lots of information out there if you are actually Ford employees. I predict 8 negative response by tomorrow!
I wish everyone well!

I absolutely do not want to go back to a building with 5000+ people when I can perform my job from home with no issues. I could see engineering and certain groups that need various machines and special equipment for their job, but not the rest of us. The only advantage to going in is social interaction and in person meetings which are both thrown out the window. We would also have no conference rooms to meet in giving social distancing measures. So what exactly would be the point of us to go in so we can have our webex meetings at our desks exactly? Also Ford would risk having some geniuses that refuse to distance or wear masks in the office creating many unfavorable situations for Ford. If a manager was refusing to distance or wear a mask and crying about his civil liberties and rights I am sure Ford HR would be getting many calls and many stories would be leaked to the press. I'm sure they'd love the extra press, though at least they'd get a high five from Trump on twitter.

I’m sure they’ll be saving money by having people work at home. 1) on the PPE equipment and 2) on the building utilities

I do not really need to go back to driving in traffic and stressing about getting to my desk in time for a webex meeting, or having managers doing a bed check if you aren't at your desk for a webex meeting. That said, I would like to be in the office 1 or 2 days a week, just to remain connected, but I am not going to sit all day with a mask on.

Nope. We were told by our manager that we will not be going back for a loooooooooong time. Possibly not until next year. We are getting more work done remotely than what was getting done in the office. No sense going to the office. You have to be 6 feet from one another and there's no meetings. You have to wear a mask all day. It's senseless to go back to the office.

@xov good point but that’s terrible PR for Ford. I doubt that happens.

Not happy at all. Working from home has made life more bearable during this time. Leaving and coming back will only make me worry about my family, who are not leaving the house. In person meetings are not allowed, conference rooms are closed, cafeterias will only serve prepackaged food. Honestly not a single point to many going back in. There is no benefit to me adding back 2 hours of driving each day and spending all day in a cubicle with a facemask on. I get it if people are wanting to socially interact if they are home alone, but that doesn't mean we are all dying to get back in.

Would we rather risk contacting Covid OR risk being let go? The challenge is that if the management gets the comfort feeling that work can be done remotely, they may ship most of the jobs offshore. This might put us in a very vulnerable position. So I am not sure which pill to swallow now :(

Nope - I have zero interest in wearing a mask all day. Keep us home if I have to go through the whole rig-a-ma-roll every single day, just to come into the office.
