Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Does looming JCP bankruptcy present opportunity for Sears?

Can Sears and Kmart take market share away from JCP?

If one compares the JCP to the Sears at the Woodfield mall in Chicago metro, I would say most folks would say JCP is a better store. If you asked that question 5 or 6 years ago, maybe Sears would be closer but Transform has not maintained the stores the last few years. The last time I was in Sears they still hadn't fixed the entrance where the customer drove his SUV thru the store.

The bankruptcy of JCPenny is pretty much more of a sign that Sears/Kmart isn't far behind in complete collapse.

Sears has always been behind the competition in logistics.

Heat wave....Sears sold out on A/C's but Lowes and Home Depot got truckloads in within a day or two.....The DM orders hot trucks to deliver truckloads of A/C's to Sears stores but by the time they arrive, the heat wave is over and the stock sits in back until the following year unless a reverse flow shipment back to the RRC is created.

Same with generators during a big storm..Sears store has a couple in stock..DM orders a hot truck....Shipment arrives a few days later when nobody needs them and it eventually gets sent back to the RRC.

Your question shows a profound lack of understanding and grounding in reality.

Well, there's a JCP (at least for now) about 5 miles away from me. The nearest Kmart is 2 hours away. Nearest Sears is an hour away. And I'm in a major metro area

So I'm going with NO. SearsMart does not have critical mass to do anything

Sears is getting beaten badly in hardlines because we don't have any in stock, and we keep on pissing off customers by giving them nonsensical delivery dates in the future that never come even though orders are supposed to be "EZ".

JCP stores are nicer and better stocked. Had they stuck with appliances they would have been the sears of the 80's. Unfortunately as bad as many of the JCP clothes quality is, all of the sears stuff is low quality junk. So sadly if JCP takes a hit those customers will just go to target or Wal-Mart not sears

Pennys is primarily softlines...,Sears is still being beat up badly by the competition in the hardlines business....appliances, home improvement, etc.

Filing for bankruptcy protection, doesn’t mean they’re going out of business.
Restructuring their debt might be just what JCP needs and unlike Transformco, Penny’s has actual retail people running their operation
