i was in Human Resources for 12 years on the Sears side. I facilitated multiple layoffs prior to being laid off myself. Just beware...the severance was promised per the policy guidelines and then the bankruptcy happened and that stopped the presses. It will be 2 years in October and I still am not even close and they owe me a fairly large amount. As much as I hate to say it, please don't believe anything you are told.

Rule #1- never admit that you worked in HR on a layoff website and that you were involved in laying people off. That's like throwing raw meat to a pool full of sharks....
HR is there to PROTECT the COMPANY.
HR is NOT there to PROTECT the EMPLOYEE.
You were part of the problem and karma just took a dump on your doorstep.

Totally agree with you!
Sears doesn't know the meaning of HR.
Unfortunately the HR market leaders that I came in contact with were all tainted. And yes many lawsuits and all associates that have been fired or quit are collecting unemployment benefits because of their unethical practices!
The same HR that took complaints and laughed at them while conspiring with the lunatic managers and directors to get revenge on the employees who said anything. You don’t even know how many lawsuits sears could have avoided if you had a soul or any sense of ethics.
So YOU were part of the problem, you were HR and you didn't know that severance is not required? They owe you nothing and you'll get nothing. So many market HR managers that had no clue what they were doing!
Again
