you dont get it. I left the group because I though the environment in that group was toxic. \I was not the only one. That group is a revolving door. People come in work for a few months a leave. What pisses me the most is Sperry inability to recognize what the problem really is. Its those two managers in that group. They may have been good developers but as managers they s— and and they do not know what they are doing. When something goes wrong the first thing they do is to threaten you. ruling using a hammer does not work. Unfortunately these are Sperry managers.
Man. If this is the case then I am genuinely happy that you are in a better place. However, this naturally leads to the question... Why in the world are you on a site primarily dealing with people being laid off from a company that you left ages ago.. spewing hateful angry messages?
You have friends or former coworkers that still work here? You should have been in their ears way before they got laid off telling them of greener pastures. Or perhaps you could be offering words of encouragement and letting people know that there is a better place outside of Halliburton.
Instead you choose to bash people who are doing their jobs as best they can on a very public forum. People who are doing their jobs as best they can much like the people that did get laid off.
One could ALMOST fathom your anger if you had gotten laid off.. However this isn't even the case. You left on your own accord and are in a much better place according to you. Please be happy with that and enjoy your current situatuon and perhaps redirect your anger into something that is more productive.

you are wrong. I am also asian american. I left Sperry software several years ago to work for a trillion dollar market company. No regrets. The management there was terrible. Now that I hear that after laying off 1000 employees these two manager are still there. Sperry is laying off the wrong people. Yes I am p-ss-d off. Halliburton always laying off the wrong people.

If the troll here is going to start calling people out by their names or their initials, then they should man the f— up and identify him or herself, instead of hiding behind their annonymiry. If this person was disgruntled then they should have left. If they were disgruntled and didn't leave but got laid off... Then that is on them.

Sperry software needs innovators not robots that do what ever they are told to do wrong or right. What you got now is robots. Do as you are told otherwise there will be consequences. How many times have I heard those complaints and yet CS is still employed. Sperry should remove those two managers.

Come on man. What the hell are you smoking? You have a chinese manager who is more preoccupied what upper management thinks about him rather than producing quality software. If upper management tells him to bend over he will do it. In any other company he would have been fired. That's a fact. How many hot fixes did you have last year?? Ask any of the developers who work for you if you want. Your testing procedures are substandard. The only reason you are the fearless leader of that group is because RP quit. Anybody who thinks software is the reason for the demise or success of a MWD company is either ignorant or a big headed software developer who thinks the world revolves around them. Sperry utilizes the most engineering disciplines in one single tool I have seen from Nuclear physics, geology, electrical, mechanical and yes computer science. The DB who keeps blaming software is more than likely a disgruntled software developer who feels his managers didn't treat them like a God.
Halliburton tried to get rid of Sperry during the merger. Halliburton wanted to use Baker's MWD technology for a reason. Baker tools are more accurate and the surface software is better written than Sperry Software. Besides that Baker has better telemetry something that was never important to Sperry. A big mistake. I personally witnessed Managers giving tours to clients in the Technology building Trolling Sperry during the merger.
It still can’t make a profit
This is eye-opening. I work for HCT and the leadership here thinks of Sperry as the bees knees. They regularly instruct us to go find out how Sperry does things and to copy their processes and methods. And that whenever we travel to Houston, to find excuses to visit NorthBelt and meet/talk with Sperry personnel so we can learn from Halliburton’s finest.
In terms of design, it is mostly mature, there is not much that can be done. Differentiator would be mostly sensors and software. I am laid off but still respect Halliburton for the career I had. There is a mix badge of people so I won’t whine about that and that is kind of everywhere. Icruise is a great product and will beat the competition head on. The product just need more run history to be on a proving ground and improve few things here and there, like software somebody mentioned below.
no innovation any more. Cheap chinese PHD's doing their research now. Software testing done in vietmam. Way too many cheap Indian contractors working on their software instead of local hires.
Software should not be a problem. There are dime a dozen great talented software Engineers. We can hire those later. Anything else?
Software is outdated. Sperry Technology = Garbage.
I think they are good shoes, not top of the line, but good for the price. Or are we talking about something else here? 😉
