Or maybe Fauci is in background because the first 2 months he said everything is ok. Thank God trump didn’t listen to Biden and allow flights to and from infected countries. The cure can’t be worse than the disease. Can you imagine the amount of people dying from pre existing conditions or stress related to our country being ruined from the cure.
Dr. Fauci has been kept in the background lately. Why? One would have to surmise he isn't willing to repeat the administration line of BS that "It will go away" or that " It's under control". Every time Trump says something stupid or science-denying, Fauci and the other EXPERTS come on and debunk the lies Trump just told.
I said EXPERT. As in MD, and expert in epidemiology, who has served in several administrations, both Republican and Democratic. He knows what he's talking about. Trump doesn't, and has repeatedly lied about treatments, numbers, and the seriousness of Covid-19. He's more than willing to have lots of us die so he can restart the economy and maybe save his job.
Trump and his minions are NOT experts, nor are any of the Right Wing commentators and pundits who advocate for trump regardless of whatever stupid lies he tells.
And, speaking of denial, it's pretty amazing to watch people here say that layoffs won't be steep. As the OP said, nobody is buying airplanes right now, and nobody is going to be buying any in the near future except for defense.
It's only functioning now at low capacity because they haven't finalized the numbers. How long is Boeing going to continue to pay you to do nothing? No new sales, and low production rates mean little need for people who process and deal with vendor products, low need for production workers, and an even lower need for management to oversee them.
The 797/NMA is dead, so everyone on that project is toast, and we have not seen the end of order cancellations and/or deferrals. Who wants a new plane that they have to fly into mothballs and maintain at tremendous expense?
So, get real. Covid-19 is going to have commercial aviation in the toilet for quite awhile. Calhoun and Friends will be fine. We won't.

When someone dies at a hospital, they take them out the back, usually through the basement parking garage or near the loading dock. Nobody wants to see evidence of mass deaths.
Why are funeral homes and hospitals leasing refrigerated trailers? Why is NYC temporarily burying people in a public park? There is drone footage showing them digging the mass grave and then filling it with wooden coffins.

Boeing could offer all the first round lay-off peeps a free ride in a Max as an option to not getting laid off.
