Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

How convenient

It looks like once again those with more years/higher pay are the first ones to go and newbies who barely know what they're doing are still employed. Why am I not surprised one bit?

If you are over 50 you should be looking for a new job - it seems like Halliburton is planning to take advantage of the situation to get rid of us all.

From my group, they laid off everyone with more than 3 years of experience, including experienced managers. Not sure who or where my new boss is.

The biggest thing with many of the companies like Halliburton is the fact that most crews, teams, shops, fracs, they don’t need every single person to be competent and super smart or experienced. So while you could have a 10 person crew, of which 8 of them are super experienced and/or smart (Which equals either lots of college, or years of experience, both expensive options), Halliburton is figuring out that they only need 2-4 experienced/smart people on the team, the rest can be fresh green-hats that are just barely smarter than a monkey to do their job. Don’t need to be paying hammer swingers or valve turners $90,000 a year any more. This down turn has proven to companies that they can get by with a couple of experience hands in each sector, and a whole bunch of numbskulls to round out the team.

Does this surprised you? We are nothing but a number. If the industry turns around (and I'm not convinced that it will) the profits will be greater because they're paying the noob so much less.

I’m also “double nickel” in age. Never thought I’d be looking for another job, but I will be. I had put in 9 years at Halliburton , which isn’t a long term. I was a mechanic before I joined, and been turning a wrench for 34 years. I can turn a wrench for another company, just really didn’t want to. But the reality of it is,If a door closes, another will open. I pray for guidance often, it helps to believe when things aren’t easy. I hope you find prosperity.
