As if the situation wasn't stressful enough as it is, now we have to wait to find out who is being laid off. Which means days - or maybe even weeks - of unnecessary worrying for many of us at a time when we are already overstressed. Am I the only one who wishes we knew already, one way or the other?

I bailed out from HP-Seattle long, long ago. It was sad to see that top-notch group [ great engineers ] crash and burn, but 2000 of us eventually left for greener pastures.
Advice: Leave on your own terms, move on, move out. There are many opportunities out there.
Indeed, many of those who left HP-Seattle went on to a much better life. I myself found a better job, better pay, with a nice pension and great benefits.

I left what is now HP Inc in 2005. The years of Bill and Dave are long forgotten and valuing employees is not a high priority. Sad.
I read no harsh comments in this string. Rather, I see good advice from mature, intelligent people.
The OP needs to read this advice and wake up. Stop playing the victim and take control of your life. To snivel, worry and whine about what the company might do is the act of an adolescent.
Based on the replies to a very basic question and statement by the first poster, the group that is into "bash and crash" the writer needs to grow a heart and some empathy. We all know the corporate world is harsh. Doesn't mean that you need to be as harsh and lack some basic decency.
For Christ Sake! Boo-Hoo... cry me a river! Wake-up, reach down and see if you still have a pair. Now be a man and go out and make something of yourself!

The better question is, "why not"? Labor is just a necessary commodity to exploit when deemed necessary. So if orders need processed, products need built, or services need provided, the company will acquire the labor to do so. Once the task is accomplished, you kick the surfs to the curb. Recycle and repeat as needed.
I'm sure I'll receive plenty of downvoted for this. But my intent is to challenge you to wake up and see reality. This is the way it has always been, and how it always will be. So do some serious soul-searching and determine if you really want to be part of this immoral cycle. Life offers plenty of other options to thrive that to succumb to corporate abuse.
All US-based Tech companies are hire and fire; it is not unique to HP. This has been going on for at least 20 years.. nothing is new. Business colleges, especially graduate schools, teach that labor is the most replaceable asset a corporation possesses. Not to be crass, but we are all basically expendable at the drop of a hat. And the company will find someone, somewhere else on the globe, to do 'our' job.

Anyone who qualified for the recent EER and did not take it is a fool’s fool. If your IQ is greater than 70, you had to know you’re on a sinking ship. HP was quite generous with the offer. I took it approximately 23 seconds after it was offered and couldn’t be more pleased.
I got laid off months ago. Now I work at a new place where I have better job security (or so I think). Ignorance is bliss.
This has been ongoing for the last 15 years. If you are just now waking up and realizing this, perhaps you should be the next out the door.
