Thread regarding United Airlines (United Continental Holdings Inc. - UAL Corp.) layoffs

Layoffs will be seniority based

I'm not sure why people think United Airlines will be able to pick and choose which pilots to lay off...

Come October 1, presumably nearly 4,500 pilots will be laid off. This will be done strictly on seniority, meaning that roughly the bottom third on the seniority list will be laid off.

Shouldn’t it be “Survival of the fittest” and not “Survival of the weakest”? So instead of keeping the strong and able you choose to keep the old and frail. That, my friend, is why Union k–ls jobs.

That’s your choice to begin with , just become an hourly Union brother and don’t cry like a baby dude .

You are guessing...13,500 Pilots on list..30% reduction closer to 3500 possible layoffs after deducting all the pilots in Training Center positions etc..

Supervisors get paid $hit and overall have a $hit job. They do it because the enjoy aviation. Management is garbage. In my experience they’re mostly incompetent at doing their job yet expertly hypocritical of what others are or are not doing. I was sold a bill of goods when I was hired last year. I thank this virus for accelerating my decision to GTFO out of United. Best of luck.

Come October 1st, many who chose a career path in United management will be furloughed with NO severance pay. Many of us went through this in 9/11 and recall rights were a joke, there were none. You had to reapply to get a chance. sUA union members enjoyed another 10 years after 9/11 not paying any medical or dental premiums, management and admin, enjoyed paying 100% of dental premiums and 20% of medical costs which was and still is substantial. Union members enjoy 6 to 7 weeks max vacation, management 5 weeks max.
I'm sure many of you believe management is paid well, I say not as they work many "free" hours, less vacation, on call always and less benefits which equate out to the same or less as the very people they are managing, unless of coarse you are above supervisor.
