Saving VH by getting rid of the middle management

This is the option that VH has to take to reorganize oxy, getting ride of the mutli-layer management. There is no need a manager for less than 10 people. They create nothing but micromanaging, wasting unnecessary meetings, micro managing just to make them look busy with a value.

Change from the core, the buddy system. VH needs a clean slate to be voted again.

@3png: At Oxy nobody's accountable at any level. Just look at this situation with VH. She absolutely destroyed a once great company, hurt our shareholders, put our morale in the toilet (those who aren't on the street) and she's still at the helm.

I see where everyone wants to minimize the managers, and sounds like there are too many. So would you all be willing to step up and be more accountable for your results? If that is the case then that is great. A purely metric driven, goal driven reward system? That sounds great but I have worked in those and people will cut your throat, stab you in the back, and throw you under the bus all at the same time to get ahead. I've lived that with little management support. You will end up dealing with managers on occasion who go completely over and around you and can treat you like a door mat and you cannot do anything about it other than invite them to the parking lot (which I did on a couple of occasions). That work environment really s—s too. Anyway, there has to be happy medium. Good luck in finding it.

I think VH is a decent person in general. The problem is that she is surround by the incompetent people built from the culture she inherited from SC.

@iyv+14MV93ck Exactly. I never got the impression that VH was malicious or selfish, but I do feel she is incompetent. A huge part of leadership is surrounding yourself with complimentary and intelligent people, and she has failed miserably in this regard.

Allowing clowns like Vangolen to run the show is a sign of weakness and being in over your head.

OP: we all know that will never happen. Look at the last org announcement. Also, look around the company, do you know how managers have less than 10 people in their so-called teams. Especially In the BU where I work, there are leads and managers with 0 - 1 people reporting to them. Really?

VH is the problem, not the solution.

VH has to be removed. If she doesn’t resign, she should be booted out.

Too many layers of management from line managers to VP’s -> BU president - VH anywhere from 3 to 5 layers. Is it really necessary?

That would require VH actually having the necessary foresight and competence. Over the past year, I would say that she has not demonstrated those abilities at all.

OXY loves to have useless layers of management. I report to a team lead, who reports to a land manager, who reports to a land director who reports to 2 VPs of land (not one but 2). It makes getting things done and documents signed a tall task.
