Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

The Stereotypical Boeing Employee

I didn't really believe in this until I started working at Boeing. One day, as I was driving around the plant with my trainer in a cart he looked over at me and said" I know what you're thinking, that these people actually build airplanes". I wasn't actually thinking that, but after a few years, it does ring true for a LOT of Boeing workers. It is pretty hard to believe that some of them could build a paper airplane, much less the real deal.

This are just my personal observations, so it's just my opinion but I've seen a lot of dumb, lazy, entitled people whom Boeing would definitely be better off without. They shuffle into the factory, do the absolute minimum, and then sprint for the parking lot when the shift is over. They actually stopped working 45 minutes before, because they'd already done "enough" for the day.

This includes worthless management, not just the IAM. I've seen them sleeping, riding their trike (that is their other "Harley") around the factory for hours, or otherwise doing everything but their job. For the managers, it's a laugh that most of them are remote now, because a lot of them were basically remote already, and called their job in most days.

I see people who make really good money spend every last penny on that new $70,000 4x4, muscle car, 3 or 4 Harleys, a boat, and maybe a snowmobile or personal watercraft. They save nothing, or next to nothing, and live for OT. Screw their families, because it's all about the toys and money. 6-7 days a week, whining about how hard it is, but when they get home, it's a 6-pack and the TV instead of time with the kids.

Now, the plug is getting pulled, and they're in full panic mode. Gee, why did I buy TWO new vehicles to go with my $750,000 house? They're Republicans and Trump supporters, but they don't get the fact that Republicans hate unions, and then they whine because they didn't unify and avoid the bendover they got from McNierney. Yes, you managed to lose your pension AND your dignity and strength all at the same time...a trifecta of stupidity.

That said, MOST employees work hard and do the job right. For every 1 jackwad, there are 4 good workers, and even a few decent managers. A lot of really smart people work for Boeing, but the corporate culture discourages them from using their intelligence because the quickest way out the door is to disagree with the yes men and women and propose doing something that is more efficient and cost-effective. This starts in Chicago, and goes all the way to the bottom.

If we're going to clean house, let's start at the top, because the Chicago crowd is rotten to the core. But, as this S-Show really gets going, think of all the slackers and 10-watt bulbs in the factory who have taken the Gravy Train fully for granted and never thought about really being smart about their lives and their career.

The hostile work environment that Boeing created is now backfiring on them many years later. We need to join forces no matter what political affiliation we have. I do not run this show. I follow my superiors lead. The rules have been made by the company. My leadership has failed me by stifling any ideas and suggestions I have tried to implement. The constant bashing of each other is not solving anything. Let's move forward and create change in a way that addresses the true decision makers. We do have our flaws in our work force but we are not in command positions.

This is a blue state so you can’t blame Trump supporters. There are more Obama supporters here at Boeing.

If you have any talent, there is no need to lay blame on Boeing.
Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. is hiring.

Wow seems like you really hate your job and blame it on other people. You're telling me you're scared to use your intellect to prospose independent ideas and verbalize those thoughts? I'd rather lose my job any day than zip my mouth. It's funny that you are upset that people to the parking lot. They want to go home and beat traffic man. Nobody enjoys being at Boeing. Especially when it turns out to be one of the most unproductive places around. I've seen multiple maxed out employees and it's obvious they are taking advantage of their job, but that is Boeing's fault. There are several levels of management, so I can't understand how they even coordinate.

I feel this way, got wrote up for trying to develop a tool we needed. I was supposed to get training but I didn't, and instead of jerking off on my cell phone like the one who was supposed to train me, I got up and used my skills in mastercam only to he written up for being out of my area, of I had been on my cell phone like the others (violation of company policy) I would not have been written up. And when reported to the union nothing happened. You do your best, and try to be as transparent as possible and your punished !

Just as some leaders seek to distract attention from their old lies
By telling new ones,
So the Putin regime regularly commits new crimes
So that those who are investigating old ones are often viewed as cranks
Concerned about what some view as a distant and unimportant past that
Everyone needs to “look beyond.”

Nobody at Boeing makes “near minimum wage” even the janitors make 20 bucks an hour.

OP here again. I didn't intend to say that all worthless and stupid employees were Trumpers...just some of them. I just think it's pretty ironic that so many are Republicans/Conservatives, when it's pretty well known that Republicans aren't big union fans.

Perfect post until you made it political. Last time I checked, gluttony (in the broader sense) had no political affiliation. Still, in general, we’ll said.

Most Boeing employees who buy their $750,000 homes and 2 cars have higher seniority and are probably a lot safer from being laid off. It’s the ones who make near minimum wage doing the same job and same job code that will probably be laid off first. They make near minimum wage and drive 3-5 hours a day just for the hope of a better tomorrow.

I was with you until you mentioned "they are all trump supporters". What in the hell does one's political preference have to do with their laziness? Would a Hillary supporter work more efficiently? This is about layoffs, I wouldn't bash you driving your prias with a Bernie bumper sticker, day dreaming about bike riding while eating soy.

I'm the OP, and the Spirit person has it so right about getting a job at Boeing because your Dad or your brother or buddy got you in the door, even though you had a c-ap work ethic and had far fewer qualifications than the poor person who didn't get the job but would have made a far better employee.

It isn't as bad as it used to be, but when I was trying to get on (I didn't know anyone), I had an employee solicit a $250 "gift" so my name could get to his friend in Personnel. I declined and got hired on my own, but that was pretty shocking. When I finally did get hired, I was ticked because I had much better qualifications, training, and education than many who'd been hired a year or two before me. Their connections far outweighed a good resume,

The other bad thing about having Daddy or your brother there is that if they're a Big Cheese, you're protected because nobody wants to PO your relative and suffer the consequences.

Sorry, that's just plain wrong.

That summary works for many Americans, not just Boeing employees. They are long, long overdue for a major attitude adjustment, and now is the time. Most will go broke and lose everything before it dawns on them this is their new reality, and that will be perfect justice.

I agree 100%...Funny thing is that I work @Spirit Aerosystems and we have 1 good manager/employee to every 20.
Now is the time for reckoning and the fat lady has sung her last song.
Within 2 weeks those negligent managers and lazy kids(which got their job by their father) that think their sh– don't stink must face the music and pay the piper with their own jobs.
The time of reckoning has come.
