I have questions regarding job bump back rights during layoff. Can someone with higher seniority bump someone off from a job code they never previously held? If a person went from hourly to salary are they eligible to bump back to hourly job?

Technically yes, a higher seniority person can drop down into a lower grade they’ve never held, per management directive call emergency reclassification. Dig your little black book out, or the .pdf from the union website and look up Emergency Reclassification (CAT E, E-Class)
Grade 9 and 8 has done it a couple times since I have been there. (Flightline and the grade 8 toolers) management drops them down as a way to give them bump back rights, or ‘hide’ them - not to be confused with retention. E-classing people is a WAR allowed by the company and contract as a way to increase a way to keep certain employees, without going over the allowable retention rate.
Management can drop back down to the box, as can hourly and SPEEA, as long as they still have bump back rights, there would be room for them based on their seniority, and if management allows it.
Hope you have at least 10yrs.

Just try to put some kind of answer. I believe there is wording in the contract that allows higher grade workers to bump to lower paying jobs. In over 30 years I don’t think I seen 1 case. Probably the reason is when they go to a lower paying job they still wouldn’t have seniority to hold the job. As far as salary I think there is a time frame where managers can go back to the job they held. If you left machinists union for a salaried programmers job I can’t say. Maybe other people can chime in
Haha not gonna lie i actually laughed out loud at that comment.
Hmmmm....where do I think I could get good and accurate information about bumping rights?
a) My union steward
b) My union lodge
c) My union website
d) My older union brothers and sisters
e) Layoff.com
If you answered all answers except e. You would be correct.
