Best they get rid of them now and save for the merger as they would have lost their jobs then anyway.
Aon staff having pay for the merger by reducing salary. Greg trying to keep the share price high to keep the merger on track and making his staff pay for it. Token gesture of 50% salary decrease but as this makes up about 6% of his income is more like 3% reduction on his part. Note most of his wealth is tied up in Aon stock he is protecting himself over the well-being of his staff.
