Thread regarding Marathon Oil Corp. layoffs

The Premier Employees Remain

How did you all expect LT to stay around you in the new office? He needs his space too and has to be sure it’s only surrounded by the most premier multi-basin-oriented employees possible. Driving value is just like driving race cars after all

There was a reason why Marathon was able to acquire the PayRock and Permian assets- NOBODY ELSE WANTED THEM. A poor overvalued evaluation upfront, hasty due diligence because of a short accelerated closing date and a general lack of understanding of the local competitive environment is why the recent BD driven initiatives have been so poor. Once the acquisition train leaves the station, it is not going to be stopped for any reason. It was all about being able to tout to pour shareholders that we are doing BIG things. Unfortunately, accountability for these failures is non-existent and in reality, they have been rewarded (at least at the higher levels of management).

LT is like some fruity vampire feasting on the desiccated corpse of the former Marathon. When LT and PW get buy-curious, they uniformly buy the wrong thing at the wrong time and the wrong price (Payrock, BC). All of the successful assets (EF, Bakken) are pre-Wagnerian - nothing those two have purchased has worked. Why the BOD continues to reward these failures so lavishly is a mystery. LT started on third base at MRO, and the board rewards him for not striking out.

Any layoffs in Procurement? If not why not? This is a weak team within MRO! Outsourcing is a better option!

OP needs to learn the key to humor is to judge the room.

I do feel deeply for all those impacted by the cuts today, many of them were and will remain good friends. Although, thankfully at least one person recognizes humor when not interjected in “slap stick” form

The poster wasn’t criticizing those laid off, but rather those who remained, implying that LT is surrounded by a man-haram of syncophants, incompetents and empty suits. It was a clever, if complex use of irony to make a point.

Lack of class and empathy! Are you serious. Be glad you kept your job and try to put out a quarter of the work most of the people laid off cranked out on a daily basis/ year in and year out. Lack of class and empathy statement is a total lack of respect for those who lost their jobs today!

This post is ridiculous. We lost people I really care about today. Clearly no one is a fan of LT but leave the bystanders out of it.

You lack class and empathy. Ranting about the CEO is fine. Respect your current and former coworkers.
