Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Clarification on 3 year layoff protection for LAPC?

I still hear such mixed messages about exactly what the COC protects. What ends in August and what is covered for the 3 years? Thanks for the clarification.

@gng you bring up an interesting question. What good will would do the trick to change the overwhelming disgust and distrust that has settled in on us employees?

The 30% reduction is not actually selective messing with anyone. It is part of the equalization in downward direction with the rest of Oxy. Other changes on function, location etc while possible I would think need to be at minimum levels. A widespread selective effort to "force people out" could create (depending on extent I would think) grounds for class action.
Regardless if latter is accurate estimate (I am not a lawyer), it will definitely poison further the already messed up well at a time with any little shred of good will is needed (along with a lot of luck in oil prices) to get out of the hole eventually.

Right on. Up until August 10th, if Oxy makes "material" changes to our employment situation (job function, location, responsibilities, pay), then you can claim good reason within 90 days of such a change, and potentially collect the COC severance (if Oxy or the courts agree with your claim). After August 10th, you're still protected by the COC severance in the case of layoffs, but you can no longer claim good reason if Oxy makes material changes to your employment situation. So to save money, Oxy will most likely screw with all of us LAPC to try to get us to quit on our own, but they won't lay us off. If they have to do layoffs, they'll lay off LOXY first, as it would be far cheaper.

Oxy can cut your pay starting in August. They can also change your job function, force you to move, cut your hours and even furlough you. They just can't lay you off.

I would expect a 30% pay cut on Aug 9 as a given, and it will get worse from there. The geniuses on 31 will do anything possible to get L-APC to quit voluntarily after August so they don't have to pay the CoC. I expect to get messed with big time.

I'm not an attorney, so do your own research.
