Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Be careful what you wish for

I agree there are a lot of people that don't like working at Oxy. But you really need to watch out what you wish for. Our salaries are reduced, but we still have health insurance and other benefits, and this virus is doing so much harm to the economy we may not get it back for years. The outlook for the economy and global health is not good for the near future. Unless you have somewhere to go I don't see how we have it that bad during this current situation. If all this was not going on I would say for sure you are right to want to leave, but times have changed for the worse. There are literally 465 rigs working in the US, and that is down 526 from last year. Our industry whether Oxy or Exxon is going down the tubes everyday.

Perfectly stated. More people needed to read this to put things into perspective, so I moved it into a thread. It was originally posted by @ypj+14FpIMo3.

I like reading that people say they are working around the clock and all of this other BS....really? I worked at companies with people saying this and that is BS. Yeah, you may have to work more than 40 hours sometimes, but around the clock? Give me and everyone else a break. I know people that work at your company, they ride the van pools and never take a computer home and never worked on the weekends. Unless you are stuck on a location in the middle of BFE in another country, about 5000 workers, and you are the construction or project manager on location, and 10-12 hour time zone difference, you don't know what around the clock work is. Or if you are a company man on the drilling rig you know this also. So enough with the round the clock stuff. You are in your house working at home. SMH

@oez I am one of those that didn’t get the full 30% cut but my salary was already laughably low they probably took some pity on me.

So you are saying we should just say "yes" to whatever Oxy throws at us? We are all overworked. I am working way more now than ever, If i take a day off, I get called for work and now I am being paid 30% less? Do you not have a backbone in your body??

Thanks for the chuckle...putting Exxon and Oxy in the same boat! That’s a good one for sure!

You don't see it all that bad? You clearly don't share the same incompetent manager that I do. A 30% pay cut, incompetent management, being forced to do the work of 3+ people around the clock (which isn't going well naturally), and the work is not enjoyable, the mood and morale is horrible, and the future is bleak. I'm not sure that it could be much worse. I have friends who work lower paying jobs, but they're happy and not all that stressed, even in this trying time. I also have friends who are now unemployed, and they're naturally worried about the future, but they're talking about the positives of spending time with the family and doing things around the house. My family's in the other room, but I rarely see them. This place is k–ling me.
