Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Be careful about what you wish for.

We can’t retain (good) help with this pay. I guess they think it is going to be better with less pay. Considering days off, shifts, putting up with the aggregation ,don’t think so.

UP will be just fine. They won’t crash and burn, shut down, disappear or be sold off. There will to tough times and good times but during any of our lifetimes they’ll still be running trains, employing lots of people and making money.

The current “leadership” doesn’t want to retain workers, they need the salaries they pay employees to give the “hardworking shareholders” the money they are working for. Once it’s all over they’ll have to offer signing bonuses to those they try to hire if they can even get anyone that’s actually going to be worth hiring.

Not exactly a booming economy but the only people hiring aren't pizza delivery jobs. Then again someone telling people they don't know how good they have it at UP is someone not qualified to work anywhere else in any economy.

Yes the job market is booming. Unemployment is down and corporations are brimming with the certainty that a great economy brings. Yes, these are good times with opportunities for all.

That is relative. if you don't value your time, then it isn't worth what you're being paid. if you can't make more money elsewhere, then perhaps stay at UP. However, if you're not a mo–n, there is an opportunity cost by staying at UP. If you are nonagreement, you probably have virtually no off time and are wasting your life away. If you ever want to do something else for a career you are wasting valuable years at UP that won't translate to anything anywhere else. most people that leave UP wish they'd done it sooner. There are plenty of people hiring now. Just stay away from the oil companies.

Most non agreement, like most agreement, isn't worth what they are being paid at this point in time. If you don't like the situation, quit and deliver pizzas since they are about the only ones hiring right now.
