I am really, really tired of Oxy and I want to leave, but I'm too chickenshit to just quit. Especially now, when the entire industry is laying people off. I guess I can always hope to be in the next group of laid-off people and have that decision made for me. Honestly, I'm at the point where I wouldn't mind it that much, just to get out of here.

Here we go with the "D" word. If it isn't working out just the way you like it, what else could it be?
Leave as soon as you can and dont look back. Trust me, you are not going to be missing anything
This is what happens when our healthcare is tied to employment. We need to push for serious healthcare reform. Imagine how many people would be free to start their own business or switch to part time if they didn't have to rely on their employer for coverage.
@bwl: I disagree, as there are some very discriminatory groups and individuals at Oxy. Unless you've worked with all of them, you can't make claims that they don't exist. I for one do know that they very much do exist, including in the executive ranks.
That said, it doesn't justify Karma Troll's claims that everyone at Oxy is bad or deserves punishment. There are some excellent people at Oxy. But there are also some very very bad people there as well, and it doesn't surprise me that some people have been so negatively affected by those horrible people. But it doesn't justify Karma Troll's constant threats and bullying against all of Oxy, including the many excellent people there.
Don’t waste your time. Just ignore it.
Karma Guy - Were you born with a horn coming out of your forehead? I can tell you the way the workplace has changed over the years everyone is accepted and even at Oxy. So if you were born with a predisposition to a certain way in life now is the time to be born. Better be glad you weren't working in the 60's or around then. I can't see where anyone is discriminated against anymore. Maybe you need to look within, and you are just spoiled because you did not get your way.
I can’t believe the karma troll finds a way to go soooooo aggressive on every post. But whatever. Anyway, OP, you’re not alone! Many of us feel the same way.
Hang in there. Many of us want out, but use Oxy to get you through this downturn. I know it s—s but there are so many laid off now, and remember if you quit you will not get unemployment.
You are living with regret. Do something now, spend time learning a new skill or network. When the time comes you will find an opportunity, just dont let it go to waste!
My advice is aggressively look for employment now. Find out what is our there, your market value and plan for what it would look like if you switched to that job.
The best thing you can do is manage what you can control.
I am with you. I known A LOT people want to be the next lay-off list
