Thread regarding Universal Technical Institute Inc. layoffs

Layoffs are here.

Well, it was good while it lasted. UTI has furloughed a ton of people. These jobs will not come back. It was good they kept a bunch around while this whole thing olayed out but the end for them is here. Sorry folks.

Bankruptcy is an almost certainty. I've seen predictions from higher education that they expect enrollments to be down 20-25%. I think UTI will be more severely impacted than your typical university or community college.

Bankruptcy? Maybe. Or, they may just close a bunch of campuses and end up operating in Arizona. (Like WyoTech and Lincoln). UTI stands for an antiquated model, it was great in the 70s to early 2000s. But, in this world where students want to go to school for free, don't want to take loans and community colleges now offering cheaper certificate programs, I don't think UTI will be operating the same way in ten years.
Things come to an end, cars replaced carriages, phones replaced telegrams. The expensive big trade schools are suffering for a reason. And btw, when I worked at UTI I saw the UTI vs community college pamphlet- one of the pros at UTI was you don't have to take history, literature classes etc. Not anymore at some community college with their certificate programs and MSATS!
Sadly, some employees still live in denial. Hang on to the dream I guess.
As for the students, they should take a leave of absence or withdraw until the campus reopens. They shouldn't be paying the expensive UTI tuition with no hand on training (online teaching only works to an extent).

Sad. My heart goes out to the employees who got let go. But, I saw it coming. A few days ago someone (probably from home office) was obsessively commenting on this page "we should all be grateful we still have jobs" etc etc. I knew the pandemic would bring layoffs. So much for being grateful. Hey, Home Office thumbing down all our comments doesn't change a thing.

I'm at one of the campuses that are prevailing. And trying to reopen.

They are going to go into debt. As many buisness are. However I don't see how the layoffs are permanent. That would mean 70% of their schools would close permanently. It takes 9 weeks to retrain new teachers so i very much doubt they are permanent. It wouldnt make any sense.

I am sorry to hear about the furloughs. Our campuses aren't out of the water yet either. We must meet certian numbers (probably carry the whole debt) or we face the same situation.

Good luck to you guys that took the hit. May the next job, teaching or not, be a good one.

It's over. All the bailout money in the world won't support the amount of new enrollments that we need.

Yep. UTI will never be the same. I feel their days will be very slow for a long time. Students and staff will not return. Hell, the fat cats still have jobs though.

People need to wake up.

300+ of us got shown the door the day after the school received $33,000,000 to "help students". Shocking how bloated departments with multiple people in management roles all stayed totally untouched. How many manager or above roles were cut at your campus? Zero at ours. Zero. Six figure salaries stay while those that need the income go. I, for one, never want hear "we are all in this together" ever again, if I ever go back. It will be interesting to see the old balance sheet at the next quarterly report.

The bailout money is for helping students.

So what happened to the bailout money?

They did get 33 Million. My Guess is they dont expect the students to return in droves so some staff have to go. They will likely end up paying the 33 million back of they end up getting rid of people. Its going to be at least a month, maybe longer before they reopen in full force.

Didn't they just get 33 million dollars through the CARES Act bailout? This is interesting.
