Thread regarding Halliburton Co. layoffs

Layoffs ending by Beginning of May

Well according to that email layoffs will be done in about 2 weeks. Hold on to your butts people. Looks like the last wave is on the horizon and then maybe all clear for a bit.

Email from JM is meant for the following reasons. Provide an update so people don’t get nervous and leave on account of a perceived lack of transparency personally being bad for them.

For the employees they intended to keep; they need them to be as engaged as possible so this is a propaganda message to rally the troops by showering them with praise while making an ask that they continue to do what is in the company’s best interest even if that comes at the expense of an employee looking after their own best interest (e.g., looking for a new career/job).

In both cases the communication is playing to people’s psychological needs and tendencies; providing an illusion of transparency (what executives are really discussing is largely behind closed doors). I know this from past experience where i had my sources (VPs I know personally and knowing the right SharePoint sites to look at).

The last round of layoffs will be the board calling all executives & directors and reading the same script before showing them the gate.

This does make sense. Most employees at North Belt have laptops. So what hr is going to call you and say come in your an essential worker now here is your letter and bring your laptop. What usually happen is you just get pluck and sent to hr and then you are watch like a prisoner until you are off the campus. If there would be layoff it will probably happen when are allow back in the office.

The email was not a “Covid19” update. It served to notify people of the layoffs still happening so they don’t have to pay out the “two weeks in lieu of notice” pay on top of severance.
Houston layoffs are happening. It’s why they ended the furlough. Beginning of May will also not be the end of layoffs.

Well I guess the rumor that the furlough ending early (May 4th) is not because there will be mass layoffs once everyone comes back. Next two weeks will probably be brutal though! Heard they closed the Red Deer office. Not sure how many people that impacted.

Halliburton Communications
Message from Jeff: COVID-19 update

It seems incredible to me that we are already in our fourth month of dealing with the COVID-19 crisis. I remember my first awareness of the virus and its impact was in late January, when some of our employees in China could not travel to HalAcademy because of the travel risk and possible exposure. Here we are in April and many governments around the world still have social distancing and stay-at-home restrictions in place.

We've witnessed a lot of change since we first heard about COVID-19. In the midst of all this change, what hasn't changed is the Halliburton spirt of discipline, integrity, and resilience. Nothing can breakdown who we are...our DNA. We face tremendous challenges, but I know that our employees can overcome any obstacle that comes our way.

Our Company has a long history of getting through challenging times because we focus on controlling what we can. If you listened to our earnings call this week, you heard we continue to adjust our business to the deteriorating market conditions.

Unfortunately, as I told you earlier this month, that includes significantly reducing our workforce. These reductions are underway and will continue through the beginning of May. I cannot overstate how difficult, but necessary, these reductions are to temper the impact of customer activity declines on our Company.

I recognize that everyone is carrying a lot of weight on their shoulders these days, and the near term future does not look any better. But, no matter how long the tunnel, there is light at the end. You will get through this immensely difficult cycle. You will succeed because of your dedication and resolve and because you have shown time and again that you stand strong even during the most challenging times.

It said through the beginning of May. I would say that means till the 2nd or so week. And I’m sure there will be more. But not mass layoffs. It will be one or two here and there depending on workloads and orderbooks

Sure did seem like it says “through May” like it wasn’t going to end on the 4th. Besides last turn down they told everyone they were done and then laid off more people about 5 different times so who can really trust the suits at the top
