Is this frowned upon? There are some essential companies in my area that are hiring temps, but I don't want to jeopardize my job at Staples (if they were hiring for a permanent job, I wouldn't think twice about it.)
So can I get in trouble for this? Does anybody know?
Unless you are getting a cash under the table job, stay at home and collect the government $600.00 week.
The non compete at Staples is ridiculous. You can work for any competition (Amazon, Target and Walmart included). You couldn’t even deliver food from Whole Foods as it is Amazon owned.
In addition , you can’t work for any customers Of staples.
This company is going down faster than the Titanic. Jump on a lifeboat and save yourself and family.
I hear Victoria's Secret is essential and hiring.
My advice is do whatever it takes to take care of you and your family.

Many furloughed 50% will get no unemployment benefits And yes you can work part-time as long as it doesn’t conflict with any non-compete agreement you may have signed.
Now that is dropping some knowledge...
Short answer - Do what you need to do.
Long Answers - Did you sign anything about what you can and can’t do while furloughed? If not you’re free to do what you want. You aren’t a slave to your company. Even if you weren’t furloughed you have the right to take a side job. Being furloughed doesn’t change that.
However being furloughed means you can collect unemployment. Is this temp job really going to pay above your unemployment and the extra 600 dollars. That’s the real question.
