Low motivation

Anyone else feel like they give about 70 percent of the performance today?

It is kind of funny that everyone is saying it is only 30%. You do realize you will likely not get bonus next year, too. Right? Plus all the perks they took away. And no merit raise this year. It is more like a 50% pay cut from the prior year. And if this was the year you earned an E, well that just s—s!

I guess the good news is, you will probably be working from home for a while. So nobody will know if you decide to not bother logging back into the laptop after lunch time.

"If you don’t like it, leave now."

This kind of attitude is silly and naive.

Obviously, it doesn't do any good to complain or "mutiny" (whatever that means).

But people are rightfully upset. Their livelihood was cut because of bad management decisions. Many people took jobs at this company based on a salary offer on a piece of paper, and because the company had a reputation for stability and a strong balance sheet. I would be willing to bet that some people passed up offers of more money because they felt that Oxy was stable.

The EC and BOD destroyed all of that by making a series of horrible decisions. The employees didn't have a say. Even the shareholders didn't have a say! Now, they are blaming the coronavirus and OPEC, but things would be much different if they hadn't leveraged the company to the hilt.

People are mad. They want to vent. They obviously can't vent at the office. This is a reasonable place to vent and take out their frustrations. You can't expect that people won't complain here.

And, as you said, if you don't like it, leave now. Nobody is forcing you to read these posts.

As usual I will give my 100 plus % work! While this can be demotivating I have no desire to take part in a mutinous activity, etc. This is a temporary situation, I’ve seen far worse in the industry than some of you have. If you don’t like it, leave now.

Not all of us, myself included, are over 70k after the pay cut. But I for one am grateful that I did not receive a 100% pay cut. They explicitly stated no changes to the current health benefits, nor to the 401k and retirement plans. For the foreseeable future I will still put in my 100% effort, and weather the storm while still employed. As disheartening all of this nonsense is, we are alive, healthy, and still employed.

30% cut does nothing but frustrate–kinda like an inmate trying levitate and urinate a figure eight around Alexander the Great. Ole Oxy is going to reinvigorate the growing unemployment rate if you take the bait and only give it a 70% efficiency rate.

As you know, recent events such as the OPEC+ price war and the coronavirus pandemic have had drastic and unprecedented effects on our industry. Please note that we will not mention the extremely ill-considered and universally criticized acquisition of Anadarko, but instead we will focus blame only on factors that are beyond the control of senior management. These recent events have caused unprecedented reductions in employee compensation.

One unfortunate result is the reduction of 30% of our base salary and elimination of various bonuses and incentive plans. This has led to a drastic and unprecedented decrease in morale and employee engagement.

Therefore, we must take immediate and unprecedented actions by reducing our daily productivity by 30%. We understand these actions may cause concern and lead to disappointment of managers as well as difficulty meeting performance goals. Nevertheless, we must stand together and support every member of the Oxy family during these difficult times.

We plan to perform a full review of our level of effort in August, but we cannot make any promises about the timing of increased employee morale and productivity since adjustments to our compensation are out of our control. Thank you for your understanding during these challenging times.

You should quit! If you are making >$70k after a pay cut, I want your job, you need to go. I will put in my 100% in for a 30% cut to stay employed for the time being.
