Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

Petition for Hazard Pay and Family Leave for Walgreens Employees

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Walgreens has been placed under significant strain on both the retail and pharmacy front.

The company has issued a statement that they would cover pay for up to 14 days for those afflicted by the virus and quarantined. This is definitely a step in the right direction, but I believe that Walgreens could do much better than this.

I feel that the risks and dangers associated with all of this more than warrants increased hazard pay and the option of paid family leave. Walgreens President Richard Ashworth, I urge you to take action and meet the needs of your employees.

Reading these posts really makes me wonder why any of you even work in a pharmacy. I was taught to put others first. I look out for my customers. I'm old and old school. I felt in the very beginning that this was just a flu. No one in my store has been sick, none of our customers have been sick. Customers have told me their doctors said that if you die in hospital they are told to write it as death from corona19. That gives hospitals more money and keeps the numbers up so congress and governors can keep states close while they pass unconstitutional laws. Think about how many people die from the flu. You don't go off your rocker about that. People are coming to their senses and starting to see what is going on. The ones who don't want to open up are mainly people who listen to fake news or unemployed people, some who are getting over $900 a week. I'm really tired of all the stupid people who can't think for themselves and all these stupid rules. Yes, outside of work I hug people. Oh, by the way fast food places want to open their dining rooms.

I have been with Walgreens for almost 18 years and I’m very disappointed that they don’t care about their employees😔. Unemployment recipients are receiving more compensation than we are as “ESSENTIAL WORKERS”. Walgreens define “essential workers” in your book. Never mind I’ll do it for you.

Real meaning: Essential- absolutely necessary; extremely important.

Walgreens- Your essential until you catch the virus and possibly die.
Yes your essential but you need to use your PTO first even though you caught the virus on duty

We are essential to our families too!! Just like you are. Our lives are more worth more than a $150-$300.00. And our managers and pharmacist are just as equally important. They don’t even get that😡😡
Come on Happy and Healthy. WE(your essential workers) need you in our CORNER. For the next 90 days. We do everything you all ask us... Show us you care!!!!

I hate to be the a–hole, but I guess I can't help it. Walgreens is a pharmacy. Don't be stupid. People need their pr-scrip-ions to manage their health conditions and the store has over the counter d–gs that help people manage the symptoms of this virus. Walgreens is an essential business. It isn't even a debate. I know that Walgreens corporate is jam packed full of incompetent pricks that don't give a sh– about anything other than money and they aren't even good at making money, but we aren't open because of "corporate greed".
As for why you have to get the virus before you can get paid, that is the only way they could get people to go to work. If you don't have to get the virus before you get compensated, why would anyone work? Why go to work when you can make the same amount of money to stay home? I can't believe I have to explain this.

We should take this VERY SERIOUSLY! You have a company making you believe that what are you doing is essential and asking you to risk not only your life, but also the lives of your love ones, your immediate family just because they want to take advantage of this situation in order to try to save their company that has been sinking for a while now and that it keeps loosing money.

They offered $300 to full time employees and $150 to part-time employees. A one time bonus. So, what the company is telling you is that your life and the life of your love ones is either $300 or $150.

We the employees of Walgreen have to make a stand together. Don't go to work first. No money is going to help any one if you manage to get the virus and die from it or worse, make a family member die because of you following the LIES of Walgreens.

Second, lets sue their asses for not providing a safe environment and equipment to their employees during a national emergency, for not been in compliance with OSHA, for Lying to its employees with a b—s— video and email saying and recommending not to use gloves or masks. Those a–holes delivered this video from the comfort of their home, completely safe while you place your life at risk for them.

I decided that MY life and the life of MY FAMILY are my priority, not Walgreens. So, I will not go to work no matter what. Money is not important when the price of it is your life!

Well this thread is about hazard pay and family leave because of covid-19. The only way to make the company do that is to peacefully protest because there is no union. If you go to work you give them the upper hand and if you want to play the martyr For the economy and want to work at the same rate doing something hazardous to your own health then that doesn’t make sense to even be on this thread but ok

The entire country is going through a crisis, a true National Emergency. The leaders of the country and of the big businesses would like for this to go away. Their bottom line is mostly the reason. However, their nonsensical policies and lack of leadership is the precise reason this will be a problem for quite a while. Use common sense as to how a virus spreads and how to contain it America and wake up. It would be nice if this was all a bad dream but it’s our reality-wake up! No amount of compensation is worth what we’ve gone through in the past 3 weeks. And to be very honest if you are reporting in to work you are also part of the problem. pay or no pay.

I have only been with the company for a year. But I can say that during this crisis, I'm disgusted. We arent getting the recognition because those who make the decisions get to me home and arent the ones putting themselves at risk. We have to fight to get disinfecting cleaner just to keep the store clean let alone any PPE. How can they say that adjusting the store hrs by a total of 2 hours a day and providing a "bonus" for staff based on ft/pt status, but only if you work through the end of April? So another words, if you get sick and are out or if they decide to reduce staffing, they wont have to pay out? Well what about those of us who have been there since the start of all this? Sounds to me like ultimately, their bottom line is far more important than the staff that keeps their stores up and running.

Walgreens will you please offer Hazardous pay for your employees during this pandemic? Your greed for money only shows during this time of despair. Take care of your employees! Live up to your motto, Happy and Healthy is what Walgreens is all about, but they leave out the most important aspect , caring firsthand for their hard-working employees! We shouldn't have to get sick fist from this nasty virus in order to be compensated. That just shows that money is the priority, rather than your employees. And to be asked to use our PTO time first, rather than having a Hazard payout for their employees is pathetic.

Walgreens is doing little to nothing to protect us during this time, they expect us to come to work and put ourselves and our love ones at risk. If your expecting all this from us then compensate us for it. Telling us to use our PTO if we are affected or want to care for our children at home is not the same as hazardous pay or proper compensation during this pandemic. All year round we slave and give up family time to drive your sales and make you look good. The least you can do is show us that you care. Shame on you Walgreens, disappointed!!!
