Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Bailout likelihood??

As we all know Steve mnuchin and Eddie are best friends. Our SGM told us today (at the safety talk while passing out the hand sanitizer bottles) that the government will be bailing out Sears to the tune of several Billion dollars in one of the bills congress is passing.

Did everyone get the same talk? This was in a midwestern fls Sears.

A&E service is so profitable because we out source our work to sub contractors to put us upper management guys look great and out of work. We look good to show lower payroll but a little bit more on profit. Not sure what to think other than we enjoyed our time here at the home service division and sorry for letting you all down .

Nonymous:

Yeah, I can see Guam, and maybe 2 stores in the Virgin islands (1 each on St. Thomas & St. Croix) to make sure the people there can get what they need. But seeing as how KMart is dying, I would hope the government would force the sale of those stores to some third party, or else it would just be a temporary stay of execution.

With a mighty 132 stores left throughout the US, including overseas territories? I don't think so.

I could imagine the government facilitating takeover of stores in isolated places like Guam, the Virgin Islands, and Key West in order to keep those areas supplied with things that people need.

If Sears was given several billion, then a corner grocery store selling a gallon of milk every 6 hours would get trillions, since they have more business than Sears.

They'll be bailing Gamestop out long before they do the same with Sears (hopefully never in both cases)

Your SGM must’ve been drinking the sanitizer he/she was passing out.

The bailout would be for essential businesses., not non-essential

No. Sears is already on life support, and it would make no sense spending money on reviving a merchant that almost no one in the public (i.e. taxpayers) was shopping at anyway. The "market" and consumers dictate which businesses and merchants they like and want to shop at, and they clearly didn't like shopping at Sears

Saving Sears would make about as much sense at CA taxpayers paying $80+ BILLION for a "High Speed" train to go from Bakersfield to Modesto (203.5 miles), and only 1/100th of the state's population live between the two towns
