Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

#NationalEmergency, #Covind19, #Social Distancing

@Dell just informed me that after 24 years of exemplary service my position is being eliminated. In the same breath I was also informed that 4 new hires would be taking my place from another continent and that I should not worry because I had the ability to apply for any open req's withing the company. Of course this last statement is blatant lie because @Dell froze all the available req's until further notice ensuring no internal or lateral moves could take place. Now I have always prided myself with personal integrity, honesty, and a respect for those who cross my path, but this is an all time low for me. Make no mistake that I will find another job somewhere else, but one has to call into question the timing and motives for an employer who who knowingly walked several dedicated professionals during a state of National emergency without cause. This is shameful behavior and I have completely lost any of great respect I once held for @Dell.

The lay-off isn’t tied to Covid but the lack of hiring reqs is. So you are told you can be rehired and all reqs are frozen. Some say Dell cares? They don’t. It’s numbers and that is what they care about. If you’re on the inside great but watch your back. I tried to meet with senior management for 2020 priorities and was bushwhacked with HR. I was told “We will help you land.” Zero help. It’s up to your personal network meaning it’s up to you and your friends.

Heartless and by the numbers. When people say it’s not personal that’s ridiculous. It’s personal to me.

they laid off a whole dept in mass, hired a whole dept in India and used they had to many people after a merger as an excuse.

There is no such a thing as company loyalty. Do not trust them and use them to your own advantage when you can, then move on.

India is a hotspot for work now. I really envy the Indians, they are perfect for Dell, they talk their way out of severe KPI miss, their workers are cheap (not the bosses who costs more than all of his deparment), they only hire and promote their relatives and friends which is the Dell way, working closely with the recruiters to hire before the requisition is made public then leave it open for applications to flood in so it looks like they screen through to find their friends, actually sorry if this sounds racist, not just the Indians, this is happening everywhere in actuality. India is just the hotspot. Dell India new HQ.

Its possible that these layoffs were already scheduled, there was rumors back in Jan that the next round was March , this may have nothing go to do with the current emergency.

I was reading about Mr Dell saying of the Spring Break party crowd to not apply at Dell Tech. Seemed as if he cared. But then layoffs at such a time?

This is a standard Dell tactic. Went through the same several years ago. They have the gall to expect you to train your replacement and be happy. I took the severance and ran but never once spoke to my “replacements”. My situation was identical to this. Take all your sick/vacation time as that’s not paid out and use the time to freshen your resume. I now never buy Dell products simply as my little way to repay the appreciation.

Of course this is also done after all all-hands passed so no uncomfortable questions asked during them.

Wow, we're still conducting interviews and hiring. This has not hit us yet.

My team was hit as well. We cost too much so we are tagged with training people in Bangalore how to do our jobs. In two weeks. ;(

It is far more then several, my friend. I was notified yesterday and my understanding is that there are a lot of WFR's across all the BUs.
