Thread regarding American Airlines Group Inc. layoffs

Good news?

I just read American Airlines has secured a $1B credit line to deal with the current COVID-19 outbreak. Does this mean we can breathe a little easier in regards to layoffs?

No, absolutely not. Due to the unprecedented mass shutdown of so many businesses, both businesses and millions of everyday people will NOT have the financial resources to travel by air for a long time, even if everything got back to "normal" by April. Air travel truly is a 'luxury' and NOT a necessity for 90% of the world. Businesses (including government) can get work done effectively by teleconferencing or video conferencing, via email or text, via driving vice flying, etc.

Paying for air travel is truly DISCRETIONARY spending for most, i.e. it's NOT an absolute necessity.

BOTTOM LINE: Air travel and aviation related industries will be impacted for a LONG time, and layoffs are a virtual certainty
