Does anyone know what will happen to mechanics? I'm at SFO and got the email about the 50%cut:/. Why doesn't United retire people and keep the next generation of mechanics? If they do this a lot of us young guys are not coming back... is there a chance I could be transferred to another station? Or should I just pack up my tools and get ready to leave? And why am I hearing that pilots that will be laid off get to keep getting paid half of what they usually make? Wtf. Any inside info about this would be great appreciated in these dark times

Hey Super Seniors,
Payback's a b–ch. Force Majeure imposition will level the 9 year pay inequity you voted in for the new hires last contract. YOU built in the potential scab workforce for short term gain.
The actual number is not disclosed yet , everyone is suppose to know by July 30 as far as percentage will be determined by actual market and flights scheduled and location . For instance could be SFO 40 , IAH 30 , LAX 30 and EWR 20 . But let’s wait brother is coming we all know. You will be fine .
Boys don't cry. Save your sniffles for another day. Gov ain't gonna give free money. It may be better to declare bankruptcy than to accept Gov's terms. Bad times for all. Only in a bankruptcy, seniority will mean nothing so that management can get rid of highly paid employees (seniority) and try to save the company. A plane flaying with one engine is always better than a plane crashing with engines out. Sully is not in the c—pit!
Let’s stop the confusion. Continental is no longer part of the name. Get with the times.
That’s a novel idea to save yourself but the never have done it this way before.
Is there anything else you might want? LOL!
The reason they won't offer buyouts for people to retire is because it doesn't help anything right now. It will not free up money, the only thing that would free up money for the company is layoffs. Buyouts help the company save money over an extended period while we top out but they'd have to fork over alot of money at once up front to do that and that's why it won't happen
From an old guy to a younger mechanic someone should’ve told you this is a volatile industry we’ve been through a lot and like the gentleman said before we gave up a lot after 9/11 and prior to that. So some of us aren’t able to retire just yet.
Actually it’s 60% capacity cuts. Read your contracts people. It’s seniority seniority seniority no matter where you work, area or station. Here’s the link to 60%. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/united-airlines-cuts-capacity-under-154003043.html
in a situation like this, is united cutting the base and line stations combined. contract does talk about base protection no lay off clause,. Will this hold or everything goes by seniority?
Thanks
FYI. US so called “old” people are forced to keep working because after 9/11 United filed bankruptcy on our pensions. Us old people took a cut in pay to receive ESOP in company and now filed bankruptcy on that making it worthless. Everything that us old people fought for in our contracts like paid lunches etc the new employees voted to take it away. So us old people SAVED United after 9/11 by giving up our benefits. We’re laid off for years. We took jobs overseas away from our families took jobs in other states leaving our families just to survive Some of us have to keep working because we don’t have the savings we could have had after layoffs and cuts taken after 9/11. SO THATS WHY they shouldn’t retire us. Unbelievable So stop crying. You haven’t been through hell yet
50% cut in capacity is what it said so basically they're laying off half of the company starting next month
What 50% email this is news to me?
