Everyone should be living below their means. If you can't make it through two months of reduced pay, in most cases it means your household finances are way out of whack and it's a sign you need to improve that for the long term regardless of when your furlough ends.

Let's start with your car. Most of us are in cars that we can't truly afford or at least that are not smart financial decisions. If you are gaging what car you can "afford" based on monthly cash-flow and the assumption of endless car payments, you're not managing your household finances right. If you don't have a paid off car, you need to sell whatever you have and pay cash for the cheapest used car that will get you going. Then start setting aside at least a few hundred bucks per month towards your next car with a plan to pay cash for it. That's just for starters. Then when stuff like this happens, you can divert that monthly savings temporarily if you have to toward other household necessities. Use this as a learning experience.

Where was the cutoff? i.e. at what level did they say, 'oh, you're fine, this furlough doesn't apply to you.'

When someone says they make 100k, actual take home is more like $5000 a month give or take. That's a far cry from 2k a week. And I know alot of the Technicinas don't make near that much.

Texas DOES pay unemployment benefits for reduced work hours. Just want to clear that one up.

I personally am not impacted by this YET. But if I was and my salary was 100k a year I’m living my Life based off that salary like everyone lives their life based off their salary. Very very few people live well below their current means. If ANYONE gets their salary cut in half of course it impacts them substantially. Why shouldn’t they be able to claim unemployment? Why such hostility towards people that make 100k a year. That’s not an astronomical amount of money. I think you would find the difference between a family making 50k and one making 100k basically equates to the ability to buy a nice new car versus a slightly used one. Or maybe save a bit more. They aren’t driving around in bentleys.

$2,000 a week is $104,000 annually. I would venture to guess that over 60% of our workforce makes that or more. The better question is what job and department are you working in that you DONT make that.

Has anyone checked to see if furloughed employees will be eligible considering they’re working every other week and still covered under benefits? How would that work with the income limit if you make a couple grand one week and the $0 the next?

They are only going to pay if you make minimum wage. This isn’t a benefit for the oil and gas industry.
