Reployments massively skewed towards older engineers. The vast majority are functionally laid off, Intel using delay tactics so the departures are staggered to avoid more bad PR.

Correct. Have to sign agreement to not sue to get separation package.
Practicly, the originator is right. Though, I have seen manager laying-off based on costs (high with age), motivation, flexibility to to change direction and contribution vs pay level. All are business criterions. But these correlate well with age :-(
This company has been garbage to work for since 2006... Do the bare minimum get your check and don't give a hoot about them. They don't care about us so why reciprocate.
