Thread regarding American Airlines Group Inc. layoffs

So tired of this place

When did American Airlines become a place where the only way to be promoted is to know somebody or be related to the right person? Oh, right, there is also the kiss-a– option. What happened to being promoted based on merit? On what you know and how hard you work?

If this continues, best people will leave. Lord know the competition pays more than this place (at least when it comes to higher levels,) so there is not a lack of options for those looking to leave.

This company can and should do better than this.

It's very interesting you say that. Within maintenance I do not see such things. I only see people getting promoted based upon credentials knowledge and work ethics.. I have also seen that within other groups as well.. American airlines has been 1 of the few companies I've seen promote only because of there skill knowledge and overall ability to get the job done.

There is a reason American Airlines is rated worst airline in the country right now and worst performing of the Big Three financially. It’s not the hard-working people at the bottom that’s the cause, it’s the MANAGEMENT! They just need to restructure their whole management group and fire the lower level IT managers and start over. There’s so much back stabbing and promotion of poisoned personalities there’s no way this company will ever compete with airlines that have built superior IT talent pools and encourage innovation.

The CIO needs to go. The place is filled with incompetent middle managers. Senior leadership competes amongst themselves. Corrupt middle managers and leaders run commission driven SOWs through kickback friendly vendors. Legacy leaders need to retire. Work culture is very toxic with low pay and IT illiterate leadership ignoring star performers. Phantom internal job postings crushes the morale of those looking to advance. Free stand-by flight benefits s— as most routes are jam packed. Profit sharing payouts s—. Your pay is adjusted only 1% every year. It's a matter of time before IT systems crash & burn - pun intended. Cyber security practice is virtually non-existent and a guy with no Cyber security background is CISO. This company has the most disorganized & chaotic IT organization.

American Airlines IT is the most disorganized and poorly managed group I have ever worked for in my 20 years in IT. The management teams overwork and abuse their employees, which is why the attrition rate is high. Any innovation is k–led. And they’ve put poorly trained managers in place who do not care for their people or know how to attract talent. If you are a contractor or looking to join IT at AA avoid this company at all cost!!!! Until the company and its upper level directors clear out old IT management and hire experienced IT architects, caring people, and fresh talent this company will continue to fall behind the other airlines globally and financially. It’s just run by very short sited, abusive, and poorly trained people.
