I mean, this really is what you should be doing to an extent in Corporate America today..positioning yourself to move on to bigger and better things is going to help you whether you have to choose another company to do that or not.
Which reminds me of another kind of BS stunt that ADS pulls that rarely gets mentioned and that’s Job Title suppression. You have people managing technical teams that are labeled as “Supervisors”..a title that would never be used at any other company for what those people are doing (and honestly a slap in the face equating then to Call Center Supervisors). There are also “Specialists” which would be considered an entry level position at most companies but are essentially “Lead” roles.
They changed the job titles around a few times when I was there but the areas I worked always had garbage ones. It actually started on day 1 for me when I was given a different title then the one used to recruit me (I can see why they used a different one to post the job, I would have never have thought to even look at, let alone apply for a job labeled with the title they gave me)
That all may sound snooty but this has a VERY real impact on future hiring in days where automated tools are used to sift through Profiles/Resumes and I have to believe it was internally done to suppress pay and retain talent. Now that I’ve left that place and have an actual job title I have recruiters reaching out almost every week on LinkedIn (even when I don’t want them to) and this never happened before
