Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Another Colossal waste of money

The Ford Credit building (the huge two story building adjacent to the World Headquarters in Dearborn) was filled with perfectly functional high walled cubicles. Jimbo decides to replace them with open office space with four to eight people crammed into the footprint of a cubicle. All brand new carpet, paint and furniture ($$$$$)

Productivity plummeted. People were unable to concentrate, quarreling increased, sickout days increased, morale down the tubes.

Now they are redoing the open space so everyone has 2/3 the open space of the original cubicles ($$$), to attempt to fix the problem they needlessly created. The obvious solution would be to reinstall the old cubicles, but they are most likely in a landfill by now.

Oh the kicker, the Ford Credit building has been on the to be demolished list for years now.
What a senseless waste of money. Employee focus groups prior to the change to open space, all revealed that it was not a good idea. But what Jimbo wants, Jimbo gets.

Well done Jimbo!

Bill is absolutely that naive. He grew up in a bubble like the rest of the family and has only worked at the family business where everything he has ever done was praised. This is why one family should not control the fortunes of one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world.

A sensible CEO would remodel on as needed basis with the latest trends. Jim is a master at putting the lipstick on the pig to show Bill he has a clue. What a walking joke he is...

All that new office furniture? You guessed it, made by Steelcase. Have to keep their stock price inflated until Hackett decides to sell.

I'm hoping that Bill really isn't this naive. But each passing day suggests that he is.

It's not just Ford. I think all the companies are going or have gone to the open office space format.
Some of the young people like it, but it's horrible for productivity.
MetLife did it in some of their locations. The only benefit I saw was some got "sit/stand" desks that go up and down so you can sit or stand as you see fit.

But make no mistake, it's all about cramming more people into a smaller area. It's all about the Benji's.

The office furniture CEO can’t even get the office furniture decisions right.

A few years ago there was a shortage of space in the building due to a crazy large hiring spree. Now that they have been on a journey of right sizing they have a lot of empty space.
Many costly management decisions we still are way over staffed and now are also under skilled.
