Thread regarding Sears layoffs

why?

Does anyone have a theory as to why they didn't just close them all down in April? Is it just about shipping the remaining stock from store to store until there are none left? I was skeptical but maybe it is just the availability of liquidators? With unemployment so low, maybe they aren't enough? It just seems like an orderly shut down but it's so small at this point. What is the point?

Sears was a mail-order-only operation (catalog) long before there were any Sears stores at all.

I assume he's trying to recover as much capital as he can from the sinking ship, and the cost of operating a store vs the cost of shuttering them at this point is probably pretty minimal.

In line with that, they HAVE to keep some stores open because Sears.com and SYW will go down if there's not any fulfillment operation behind them. That's where this is going. Sears operates a few token small stores and has a website.

He does it all at once, and it's only months after he promised to save jobs. He spreads it out over the course of a year, it looks like he tried. You actually think he's trying? He's trying alright, trying to deceive the judge who allowed him to buy them! This way, he covers his but, otherwise he'd have harder chance of proving he tried. He never tried, the only thing he did was change the slogan, it was always a sham save, everyone who has common sense saw it.
