In addition to Operations, Reserves Leader has no experience, HSE Leader specializes in crisis work (fitting!), Hr Leader is not a Hr person, the list goes on.
The CEO needs to stop putting friends and friends of friends in position.
But, go Astros! Another fine organization.
So we make our operational goals, which is funded 100% for the IC. But the lack of AH success was spread to everyone, resulting in an overall 50% funding of the IC, at least in my department. The people in the trenches did their job, and paid the price for the Board and CEO not doing theirs. That is premier.
Given the successful delivery of 2019 operational goals (by the employees) has been confirmed, I presume the failure of the senior leadership team to deliver on the strategic goals will shortly be remedied through some blood-letting at the top table?
Worse than it’s peers? It’s no longer on the same playing field it’s lost so much value. It’s value is so low an acquisition is unlikely. Clearly Apache has some of the most gifted minds. Some of the most talented hard working individuals in the industry. The board and CEO are driving the bus. If your on the bus obviously you got two choices.
Stop blaming global markets and the industry as a whole for Apache’s failures. You are shirking the responsibility we all must bear for our company’s performance. Oil is still very high compared to the historical average, so there is no excuse for having poor financials. Also, we are underperforming many of our peers regardless of what metric you use, particularly if it’s any of that non-GAAP nonsense. If we had turned back from Alpine back when we knew it would be a colossal failure we’d be in much better shape. It’s far too late. And it’s also something none of us should be proud of. The animosity we have towards our leaders is 100% justified.
One of the biggest issue in Apache is lack of systematic reviewing system on decisions made on leader selection and project management. The upper management believes that a person with only people managing skills but without fundamental technical understanding on the work managed can be qualified for a good manager or VP. This is obviously wrong, and has been proved by many poor decisions made by those "qualified" VPS/managers. We need to put competent people to every position, in particular those leadership positions. Unfortunately, this issue doesn't go away in the new structure. For example, appointing a HSE guy with limited production experience to lead offshore production that Apache is counting on for the next few years. Good choice!
The buck stops with the CEO and Board. Reorganize that!

SA isn’t running the company. The CEO and Board are. They put faith in a play that didn’t return. And too much faith. And too much faith in a group that couldn’t get along with EOG managers (red flag).
But you’re right. It’s not ALL SA. I agree with a previous post about those in APA longer than SA office’s existence (aka APA lifers) should be the ones that get any Houston offer.
But APA is doing worse than it’s peers. That’s a fact. And that is the mixed result of the CEO, the board, and a faith/lack of supervision of SA self-promoted-to-VPs-with-little-oversite. They are bleeding money. While losing the SA former EOGs VPs is best, it would be even better to remove the CEO as well for blindly trusting them.

Well, bonuses are coming out soon and it sure looks like San Antonio’s failures (and the CEO’s continued funding and promotion of the same) has ended up costing everyone. Again.
Yet somehow the CEO still has his job after 5 years of consistently complete and utter failures? Sure wonder if his bonus gets cut too, or if failing is success in the eyes of the Board.
It's definitely confusing. All of SA is laid off pending offers to a select few, most of whom are still unknown. Midland will have people who get to remain, people who get laid off, and people who get offered transfers to Houston. And people in Houston will either get laid off, or get to remain. The goal is to cut a certain percentage of the workforce, so it seems like they would have to stagger these things, because the number of people who accept/reject offers is going to have a ripple effect on the entire remaining process. Will SA be given offers, and then based on that result Midland offers go out, and then Houston? Or will SA and Midland be together? Or will all of them be simultaneous and then we have another several weeks of executing contingencies because...I won't go on; it's all clear as mud. I often wonder if executives are so hell-bent on these reorgs because it's the illusion of progress.
I don’t understand....the news says ALL SA employees will be laid off. The WARD also means that senior positions in SA are not entitled to junior positions elsewhere. So what Houston offers?
I hope any Houston offers go to those in the company 10+ yrs and not the SA VPs/EOG cabal that caused this mess.
Offer letters to Houston will probably start to be issued next week. No word on when those who say no (or who do not get an offer) would be expected to leave the company. No thought has apparently been given to how the transition from SA or Midland to Houston will be handled or processed. There is a real possibility that this reorganization will set the company back several months, if not quarters.
Oxy bought dumb–s, not Anadarko. Lists bring compiled and checked versus needs. Sub $50 (almost) oil, the hatchet is going to fall. The quiet is just the strategy discussions before the act.
Ha! Not a damn thing going on! This is Apache... where our great CEO starts a re-org last Summer and still can’t have it completed until the week before the San Antonio office closes(supposedly)! Meanwhile Anadarko bought a whole company and was able to reorganize in less time than it’s taken our great leaders to figure out which @ss kissers they and their cronies want to keep.
