CareFirst in chaos! Have we lost our way?

Friends, my gripe is with all this mandatory volunteerism, meeting participation and SELF medical tracking (Sharecare). Wondering why CareFirst went from a place you would go to do 8 hours of good hard work (for pay) to a place where you are heavily encouraged to join some ARG group, pledge United Way, volunTOLD to clean nasty alleys & vacant lots, attend town-hall meetings and gosh forbid you not participate in the infamous CEO “live” 5 3 1 meetings 😂😂 (what a joke!) and oh yeah, don’t forget you still have to do your 8 to 10 hours of actual work. JeezLouise!

Honestly millennial CEO, I would love to see CareFirst work environment return to the days of when your main concern was to come to work and do actual work on behalf of our members, beneficiaries and medical providers. At least that’s what I was told...

To work for CareFirst is simply that TO WORK - that’s all I need. I mean really, we are all grown people with outside lives far more important than putting on a façade of making my CAREFIRST work be my “all be all” or being a community first company - - I think people would prefer health insurance access, mental health services and lower medical cost - not necessarily clean alleys or painted walls.

I know, I know - go find another job right? Then this post is not for you. It’s for those of us that are deep in our CAREERS at CareFirst and don’t want to start over or are to old to start over - trust me, you’ll be where we are one day too. So to those people (my people): how can we express this message to leadership (without getting put on the chopping block)?

What are your thoughts? Can we get back to work now?

Day of Equity was a sham. The amount of money spent on facilities, transportation, lunch, shirts, speakers could be far better spent in other ways. Also, the many volunteering events were not well thought through. What did we as a company really do long term when those alleys filled back with trash or the week long supply of toothpaste given out ran out? It felt creepy weird in so many levels like a forced sorority or fraternity pledge. Like where you had to pretend you liked it or else. I want to give back to my community but it came off as such an shameless PR stunt, i wanted to hide I was so embarrassed.

Rumor has it day of equity will be earlier this year, maybe in the spring? I say hit ‘em where it hurts. Tons of money spent to pull this “mandatory” event off. The “blue flu” feels much like spring fever. Anyone catching my drift?

Just because we are old timers and folks who don't want to go out and start over, we ain't any less competitive or passionate or hard working than the ones who are on the booing alley. If you come in the forum and ask people to move on, then you have a skin in the game to make peoples life miserable while joining the millennial CEO and kCIO to rob this company's and members money by bringing in consultants like WestMonroe, Deloitte, TekSystems and more. One day you will see the streets and will know what the pain is.Why is Baltimore Sun or any credible new paper is not bringing this so called ethical guys to the limelight.

Good deeds should be done with intention, not for attention.

To isy+13hv9pjy. There's nothing wrong with giving back, it's the disingenuous manner in which the message is conveyed, or rather forced upon the employees.

Considering work is where you spend a large portion of your life and giving back to your community is never a bad thing, why are you so upset with a company trying to make things better for their employees and the community? Perhaps you should move along and work for your own selfish purposes.

Spot on! And kudos for saying what many, many of us have been thinking for quite some time now. I don't know if there is a way back at this point. It's a sad reflection of the times when it is more important to look good "folks", than it is to get down to the business of doing good work servicing members and keeping the lights on and doors open. Only time will tell where this ship lands.
