You can change your W4 withholdings to maximize the amount of your take home $ and make it up later in the year for tax purposes. You need to make any changes ASAP so the change is processed by the target pay period. I think the max is 10 without having to do extra paperwork for the IRS.
I was a level 28 and had been with Optum for 5 years. My last day was 1/2 and I got my 6 weeks’ severance 2 pay periods later. I emailed in my severance agreement on 1/2.
No RRP payout either since last day of employment is 2/20 and you have to be employed for the RRP payout on 2/21. b–tards,.
severance is figured out by your years of service and pay grade. you are given credit for each full year and you dont get any credit for partial years. for example: if you worked for 3 years , 11 months and 25 days you only get credit for the 3 years.
I was a level 28 with 4.5 years and I got 6 weeks of severance.
What was the severance package? paychecks with years of service.
Severance is paid out 2-3 pay periods AFTER your last paycheck depending on the payroll cycle.
I was laid off from UHC on Oct 2nd and sent in my severance agreement on Oct 16th which was my last day of employment. In MN, they have to wait 45 days after your last official day of employment before they can process your severance. I got my severance payment on November 15th which was 2 pay periods after my last paycheck. Make sure you get a copy of your paycheck stub mailed to you. They're legally supposed to mail you a physical copy, but I never got mine. I had to call HR Direct and get copies of them sent to me.
And yes, it's a giant lump sum payment that's taxed at a higher rate which s u c k s. I managed to change my 401k contribution to 0% the day I was let go so my final paycheck was a little bigger. Figured I may as well get more actual money now vs putting in my retirement fund.
Dec 4th layoff...weren’t you employed until 1/2?
You are fortunate you got the pay after the first of the year. I was on the 11/20 layoff and waited until Dec. 16th to submit severance agreement thinking it would take 2 pay-periods to process....nope, I got my check on 12/27, which increases my tax bracket and has increased part B Medicare premiums.
