Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Oxy COVID19 response, come to work you lazy ...!

APC folks, how do you like now Oxy dealing with pandemics! When dealing with Hurricane Ike we were released the day before!, everybody else in the industry had plenty more time. Now Vangolen is asking everyone who can to show up!. Is this a way to further reduce staff by potentially exposing them to the virus?

Even if you don't care about Covid, Oxy is in Bad shape. I don't understand why we would even keep the lights on in these buildings. They want to save money. Get rid of the buildings. The utilities alone on 1 day would safe several jobs. I've done my job just fine from home & so has my team. Makes no sense.

They need everyone to show up to work so they can proceed with the layoffs. Man I hope I'm on that list.

I don't think any of the EC or the CEO will be turning up for work or mixing with anyone from the office. GV needs to get a grip of things if VH cannot. This is serious and a raft of law suits could follow if an outbreak starts in the building.

I’m glad there is known community spread in Montgomery county but we are still required to come to work. Glad they don’t care about us at all. Or our community. There is no person who can’t do their job from home.

And with how bad of financial shape Oxy is in, you think they would want to save on electricity!

I listened to the New York governor and he said one way to contain was to reduce the density of people. He was leaving it up to companies for now, but would consider mandatory if needed. He basically made it sound like only mo–ns would have their people come in. I know there will be a lot that need to stay home with kids, and that is fine, but it is very hard to work remotely with kids to take care of. In my case I can do my whole job from home and not miss a beat. Under the current email I don’t qualify, and that is what gets me. So I need to come in and possibly expose myself to mass people just because someone needs to take a headcount. I am not giving up my PTO because after April 1 they have to put in the bank anything we have over 120 hours. I will need those banked hours when I get laid of soon.

Certainly not a very bright answer to the pleas by Dr Fauci for everyone to stay away. Isn’t GV keeping up with this? Makes me think he is NOT! Even my health club is limiting the number of people at a time, and recommending people stay 6 feet away from each other. They limited the studio classes to 8 people down from 20 people in order to space out people from each other during the class. My goodness.

And we all have to be packed like Sardines in the elevators at Greenway, Good Grief!

Shell has all non-critical staff working from home. And we are being told to go to work tomorrow. I hate this company now. It's one thing to ruin our jobs and careers through horrible management, but it's quite another to put our lives at jeopardy! I hope GV gets the virus.

I could not agree more. Elevators are crowded. Only Heaven knows what all has been exposed to, There is emerging evidence from a Seattle Dr who had started testing general population with nose swabs, etc. She was finding several asymptomatic people had active coronaviruses. The FDA stopped her. Unfortunately the beaurocracy established by the previous admin, moving toward nationalization and government controls added to the problems of not having test kits created by the private sectors, such as this Seattle Dr did. So there are many more infected but asymptomatic people now in general population unwittingly infecting people who do get ill. For example, a teenager has stronger immune factors to handle a RNA based virus, but a 40 year old person doesn’t have such immunity. Other big O&G companies have already told staff to work remote.
