Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Reorganize and restructure

I respect that Hyvee has the right to reorganize and restructure.

I resent how they have done this in such an unethical manner.

Employees were suddenly terminated (s—er punched) mid-shift and without warning after repeatedly being told their jobs were not being cut.

No severance.

(Offering a part-time, $10 an hour night stocker job with no benefits is hardly finding jobs for everyone.) Benefits terminated immediately.

For many that have illnesses and took advantage of flex plans, money was deducted from paychecks with no chance to use the plan.

Escorted to cars immediately like a perp walk.

Completely misleading/lying to media.

I spent approximately $250 a week at Hyvee and that doesn't include catering that I purchased on behalf of my work place's board meetings.

I, my extended family and coworkers will NEVER shop at Hyvee again.

It has been easy to shop elsewhere, with the same variety and better prices.

Employees and customers are paying the price for bad administrative decisions.

I simply cannot support this from a moral and ethical standpoint.

I hope you will join me in not supporting a company that has wreaked havoc in the lives of so many in a multi-state area.

Shame on this corporate miscreant.

I hope corporate does read these. There would be hell to pay if my department got a letter like this. But here we are people, corporate - this is your angry letter. We are losing good employees and loyal customers. How many levels below the bottom of the barrel are they going to let him burn though before anyone understands that this is the beginning of the end!?!? This week has showed us how volatile the economy is. Why are we letting randy play monopoly with hy-vee’s money when he has no proven track record ? I don’t care if he needs to “spend time with his family” , “goes to rehab”, “retire”, get him the hell away from hy-vee for the rest of his life. Done enough damage, it’s over. You really can’t look forward with the dipshit that set the boat on fire to begin with.

This is a response i wrote to an "Anonymous" Survey they sent out to all the employees. I kind of hope they retaliate. Of course I will probably have to get in line to sue them for it though.

Quit wasting company money on stupid ideas like Wahlburgers, Hy-Vee Arena, Market Grills in every store. From the day they were put in The Market Grill was a waste of time and resources, it has done nothing but s—ed money out of once profitable stores. The dumb–s move of partnering with Wahlburgers is a waste too. Forced shipments of product to stores that have no hope of selling except at a loss just because some a-hole at corporate got a fat kickback from the manufacturer or supplier is ridiculous. Making the stores in lower economic areas carry expensive specialty food items that go out of date before half of what they were forced to take is even sold, STUPID. "Supplier entitlement" and mandatory displays are just another name for a bribe to a corporate officer or CEO. Taking all the decision making away from the Directors because you want everyone to be sheep that think Randy Edeker walks on water. All bad decisions that were passed down by Edeker’s edict. When as an "employee owned" company do we, as employees, have a say or input as to how the company allocates resources. Ever since Randy Edeker became CEO this company has gone downhill. If the board of Directors had any balls at all they would see that and get him out. His decisions have cost the company money, reputation, and quality and dedicated employees. It should not fall on the employees at store level to have to take demotions, pay cuts, or losing their jobs because of his poor judgement. His, my way or the highway, path should not be how things are done. But since there are nothing but yes-men surrounding him, and that's what his ego prefers, nothing will improve. He has single handedly turned Hy-Vee from a company that someone would be proud to say they worked for to one that the employees are afraid to talk about working there for fear of their job. Since he took over the company moral has reached ZERO. Everyone is always waiting for the next round of cuts and wondering if they will be next, All while there are no repercussions at corporate. no one at corporate has lost their job or had to take pay cuts and it is not fair. Hopefully Randy can live with himself when the company that was built over the last 80 years comes crashing down under his leadership, If that is what you want to call it.

The response to what do like about working for Hy-Vee:

Nothing, I tell people I know to apply elsewhere. I used to like working for Hy-Vee but not anymore. Supervisors and Store Directors lie to your face when you go to them for help. Sick and tired of the BS and all the corporate Kool Aid drinking id–ts in charge. Make changes in corporate leadership to make the current employees proud again should be the first step.

This happened to me as well after several years of loyal service. Despite the store director continuing to tell us that we were safe and doing well. Without any warning, I was terminated mid-shift and told I no longer had a job at the company. Insurance was immediately stripped. They did pay two weeks severance however all flex time "personal time" was lost.

I was one of those this happened to and I absolutely will never step foot in a hyvee again and neither will my family members who are just as angry. I also have many friends who say they are going to start shopping elsewhere as well. If this happens with other employees across the state and beyond who were dumped to the curb like garbage, hyvee may come to regret how they treated their former employees!

I have to agree. But, they have driven all the grocery stores out of our town. The only other choice is a Walmart , which most folks prefer for a lot of things. Hate going in to HyVee and paying out big bucks for the same items. They don't even have any checkers working - maybe one. You know what's going to go down - just heartbreaking what they are doing to people that have worked there for years - loyal and faithful.
