Thread regarding Hy-Vee layoffs

Something is not right

I work for Hy-Vee and have for over 20 years, all at the same location. Several years ago, when it was announced they were going to construct Market Grille restaurant's in a large number of stores, I myself, and everyone else, basically said " oh he'll no!"....anyone who has been in the grocery business any length of time knows your everyday customer is NOT going to patronize a high end restaurant at the same location they buy their regular groceries.

I see a lot of bad comments here about the current CEO, a.k.a czar Randy, and yes we are in a different marketing era now, than we were in the Pearson and Jurgens years, but no question about it, Randy, and I'm going to include the entire current board, have made some incredibly bad decisions. Bad decisions that have sent the entire company into a train wreck.

I thought they could pull it out as recent as 2017, but it just keeps getting worse, and now is compounding. They are not being up front with the employees who have helped make Hy-Vee what it is today....well, at least to about 2015. All that high talk about employee owned. ...pfffttt...take that up to your directors office and see how far it gets you.

Furthermore, I just spent 2-3 hours going around to all other grocery stores in my town checking on a big list of items we are out of stock on...items from the big boys Kraft-Heinz, Procter & Gamble, Nestle, etc.
and in nearly every instance, they had the product, and we dont...so what does that indicate?

Hy-Vee is not paying their bills, they are in deep financial doo-doo. Everyone is asking, how did this happen?? 20 years ago, Hy-vee was the premier place to work, they were known as a cash rich company. The best place to work in any town they were in. But in the true corporate American way, corporate greed once again is going to send a once prosperous and highly respected company, straight into bankruptcy. Would not at all be surprised if it's not announced within a week

I have no monkey in this circus but how the f*ck does a company making 10 billion in annual sales as stated on the profile here in financial straits? It doesn't say it's publicly traded so there's no annual report or prospectus to see where the $$$ is going?

HYVee needs a new rudder as they are, yet again, sailing off directionless. Market Grill was a flop, cost millions and has still k–led sales at the deli. Now build fulfillment centers and close them months later. Am really glad that this is not a public stock company and that I am not invested. HyVee has always taken advantage of youth, just read the audits for work hours and under age 18 employees. If they are to stay around they need a path to regain what they have lost. Integrity and people. When was the last time you actually saw a smile in an aisle?

To the director who quit his job at HyVee because he wouldn’t fire his staff. Can you say how they presented this information to you? Did you get demoted to store manager and take a pay cut? Was this your last straw with HyVee or were you really happy with your directorship? Please tell us how your feel about all of this how long were you a director and how many years did you work for HyVee. How does your other directors feel about burning the ship for 2020

Stores can’t keep their aisle full. They have out of stock issues. How does HyVee make money? They sell product from their stores. We already have a problem with out stock items on the shelves. How do we solve this problem? Cut the people in the stores that order and stock these shelves. That will help us increase sales.

HyVee does NOT have cash on hand. They have reached their credit limits. Why would they spent 20 million dollars on fulfillment center and close them the same year. Why are they being very secretive about what is going on? Why are they cutting the directors titles to store manager? Why would you force people to take pay cuts, HyVee finances are on life supports. Head coach Randy is about to lose the game. He is calling Hail Mary plays right now. This is his last ditch effort to get back into the game.

Sorry but am I missing something here? A layoff after 33 years of a family man? And apparently for no good reason that I am aware of. That is dirty pool and speaks volumes of the integrity of HyVee Foods. Yet you see no lack of young people working there. Has to be an issue with poor management as our store is packed day in, day out. Rarely anywhere to park & several trips around looking so who is pulling what? I guarantee that after reading about the man who was laid off, I could care less to shop in your store. We still have Kroger's and their prices don't steadily increase week after week. So for now for this poor man & his family, I boycott HyVee & may you find your way back to the respectable business you once were.

Yeah , ordering at hyvee, glad you brought it up. The entire ordering system (for those departments that do automatic ordering) is complete c-ap. You spend more time cycle counting and "fixing" the system than you would have just ordering yourself. I believe the system can be turned off but most won't do it or aren't allowed. Anyway, i count holes in my store everyday that have nothing to do with counts being off as well. Weather events, sporting events, etc. all matter for ordering and the precious system doesn't get it right most of the time leading to out of stocks.

You were out of stock on those items because someone didn't order enough . No conspiracy here just poor ordering.

I wouldn’t worry about bankruptcy at this point. HV has cash on hand and plenty of available credit. That said the trajectory is terrible and needs to change. Will these current changes fix our issues? Doubtful to me.

As for out of stocks. I look at invoice out of stocks every truck. There are no more than normal. Likely your store is running too thin and no one is walking holes and your counts are off so the system thinks you have product.
